The 24th Foundation Day of Maharaja
Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (erstwhile North Orissa University),
Baripada, was celebrated in the Convention Hall of the University on 13th July
2021 following COVID-19 guidelines. The meeting was held in a blended mode with
the Chief Guest, Prof. Pooran Chand Joshi, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi
and Prof. Asoka Das, Vice-Chairman, Odisha State Higher Education Council
joined online through Google Meet platform. The meeting was presided over by
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, who focused on the need of
scientific and academic collaborations to elevate the University. Further, he
highlighted the challenges faced by the faculties and students during the
pandemic situation and how everyone is trying their best to overcome these
hurdles. On this occasion Prof Asoka Das expressed that the heritage of the
University is an amalgamation of North Orissan art, culture and biodiversity
indicating Similipal Biosphere Reserve and the cumulative intellect of the
people of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Prof. Pooran Chand Joshi, Vice Chancellor,
University of Delhi, apprised about the “Vidyavistar” programme of Delhi
University for collaborating with Universities in remote areas. He emphasized
that Universities are on cross roads as Government of India has rolled out the
New Education Policy which has many dynamic provisions for the benefit and
empowerment of students leading to multidisciplinary choice of subjects. On the
occasion of Foundation Day, Bhumiputra Samman, 2021, was awarded to Padmashree Daitari
Naik as son of the soil of Keonjhar for his unique efforts in the field of
Social Work and to Professor Ajit Kumar Mohanty as son of the soil of
Mayurbhanj for his exemplary contribution in the field of science. Prof.
Umaballav Mohapatra, Vice Chancellor, Rajendra University, Bolangir, was
felicitated on this occasion for superannuating last year from the University
service. Non- teaching employees Shri Tapan Kumar Patra, Senior Assistant and
Mrs Arati Jena, Peon, were also felicitated for their commendable performances
and sincere services to the University. Kumudini Memorial Award was presented
to Miss Subhasmita Das and Miss Dibyajyoti Naik, for securing highest marks in
M.Sc, Zoology. On this occasion, the Newsletter and Annual Report was released
by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor. The meeting started with a welcome address and
introduction of the guests by Prof. Anil Kumar Biswal, Chairman, P. G. Council.
The Annual Report was presented by Shri Sahadev Samadhia, Registrar and vote of
thanks was proposed by Comptroller of Finance, Shri Sukadev Tarai. The
Foundation Day programme was coordinated by Dr P.Parida, Dr K.L.Barik, Dr C.Mahapatra,
Dr B.Hansdah, Shri S.Bissoyi, Dr S.S.Basa, Shri H.K.Mohanta, A.K.Mohanta and
Shri N.R.Das.
