The P.G. Department of Geology at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University successfully organized a two-day national seminar on 14-15 February, 2025. The seminar on the topic "Exploring the Wonders of Geology", brought together experts, researchers, and students discussing recent advancements and discoveries in the field of geology. Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, attended as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Hemanta Kumar Sahu, Chairman of the P.G. Council, presided over the inaugural session. In his address, Prof. Tripathy highlighted that Geology is the basics of all science subjects as it deals with starting from the origin of the universe to the occurrence of minerals in the earth.The Chief Speaker, Prof. Mruganka Kumar Panigrahi from the Department of Geology & Geophysics, IIT Kharagpur, delivered an insightful talk on contemporary geological research, highlighting emerging trends in mineral exploration, geohazards, and sustainable resource management. Dr. Subhransu Bhusan Ray, Former Deputy Director General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Kolkata, attended as the Guest of Honour, sharing his vast experience in geological surveys and exploration. Convenor of the Seminar Dr. P. S. Sahoo, the Convenor, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. Dr. Debasis Singh, organizing secretary of the seminar spoke on the theme of the Seminar while the joint organizing secretary Dr. Sushree Sagarika Behera offered vote of thanks. Among the other dignitaries, Sri Manoranjan Mahapatra, Former Director Geology, Department of Steel and Mines, Government of Odisha, Sri Ramakanta Mahanta, Retired Joint Director Geology, Department of Steel and Mines, Government of Odisha, and Dr. Asim Amitabh Pradhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Geology, Fakir Mohan University and many other distinguished scholars of Geology delivered their lecture. The seminar provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and academic collaboration, fostering discussions on significant geological topics and inspiring future research in the field. The attendees of the seminar had a field visit to Sitakund and Baldiha dam.
