NAAC Peer Team visit to MSCBU - Round Up

A team of five members from NAAC visited Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada from 27th to 29th March 2023 to assess and accredit the academic and intellectual environment of the University. The team consisted of Dr. Arvind Kumar Dixit, former Vice Chancellor of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra, as Chairman; Dr. Rakesh Ramteke, Professor at KBC North Maharashtra University, Maharashtra, as Member Coordinator; Dr. Sanket Vij, Dean at Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidayalya, Haryana; Dr. Francis A. P. Arakal, Professor at Sri Shankaracharya University, Kerala; and Dr. Bharat Ramanuj, Professor at Saurastra University, Gujarat, as members.

The team arrived in the morning to the sound of a traditional drum beat performed by volunteers of the University's National Social Service Scheme and students of the Santali department. The members garlanded the statue of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo, followed by a discussion with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy. Prof. Tripathy gave the team a presentation about the University and its activities, and Coordinator-Internal Quality Assurance Prof. M. Himabindu presented details about the university with respect to the seven criteria of NAAC.

The members visited the P.G. Departments of the University and various facilities, including the "Sanskrutikee" - Cultural Museum, NSS Bureau, Computer Centre, Central Library, Similipal Study Centre, e-Resource Centre, Language Lab, Media Centre, Facilities for Divyangjans, Canteen, Day Care Centre, Dispensary, Yoga Centre, Zoology museum, Animal House, Central Instrumentation Facility, Gymnasium, Sports Council, Playground, Water bodies, University Hostels, Incubation Centre, various club-houses, Sacred Groove, Botanical Garden, Green house, Mist House, Medicinal Garden, Biotechnology Laboratories, Career Counseling Cell, Placement Cell, various other cells and facilities. Part of the delegation also visited the second campus of the University in Keonjhar. The team also reviewed the "Teach Mayurbhanj" programme being conducted by the School of Education.

The members also interacted with alumni, parents, students, and principals of affiliated colleges, and discussed the academic infrastructure of the University with Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia, Prof. Hemant Kumar Sahu of Department of Zoology, Director R&D Prof. Hrudaynath Thatoi, Director of College Development Council Prof. Susmita Kar, DSW Director Dr. Aditya Kumar Patra, Controller of Examinations Prof. Laxmidhar Giri, Controller of Finance Mr. Sukadev Tarei, Heads of various cells & committees, and other departmental officials.To honour the NAAC team, the students of the University showcased a cultural program at the University Auditorium. 

In the exit meeting, the NAAC peer team hailed the University's effort towards touching all the aspects of teaching & learning, research and infrastructure despite having a locational disadvantage. Members also suggested areas to improve upon. The University authorities are hopeful of improving their grade.

On day 2, the NAAC peer team members visited various facilities and centers such as "Sanskrutikee" - the Cultural Museum, NSS Bureau, Computer Center, Central Library, Similipal Study Center, e-Resource Center, Language Lab, Media Center, Facilities for Divyangjans, Canteen, Day-Care Center, Dispensary, Yoga Center, Zoology Museum, Animal House, Central Instrumentation Facility, Gymnasium, Sports Council, Playground, Water bodies, University Hostels, Incubation Center, various clubhouses, Career Counseling Cell, Placement Cell, and other cells and facilities. The team also visited various administrative sections such as Examinations, Finance, and Establishment, and interacted with non-teaching staff. Part of the delegation also visited the second campus of the University at Keonjhar and interacted with faculty and students.

A five-member team of NAAC has visited the University on a three-day visit to assess and accreditate the academic and intellectual environment of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. MoU signed between University and CTRTI



A state-level workshop on the conservation of wild modal tasar species found in Odisha's Similipal biosphere reserve has been organized by Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University in collaboration with Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Ranchi (CTRTI) on 17th March, 2023. Dr. K. Sathyanarayana, Director of CTRTI who presided over the ceremony, emphasized the quality of high-quality tasar species like Modal and the need to conserve the tasar species in today's era when forest loss is a natural phenomenon. Mr. Suryanarayan Patnaik, Additional Director of Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department, Odisha on behalf of the Sericulture division, highlighted the modal conservation programme and its activities by the centres located around the Similipal biosphere reserve. He also discussed the need for conservation of the species of Jata and NaliaTasar. Baripada DFO Mr. Santosh Joshi attended as the Chief Guest and extended cooperation for conservation of modal tasar from the State Forest Department and promised to work together for conservation of modal and other species in the coming days. In this programme, the head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shamakhunta Dr. Sanghamitra Patnaik,  Senior Scientist of the Central Silk Board Dr. Manoj Patnaik, Dr. Prashant Kumar Kar, Dr. Karmaveer Jena, Dr. D.I.G. Prabhu presented key scientific findings and discussed the conservation and utilization of wild tasar, disposal of tasar waste and public participation. On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University and the CTRTI for research on various topics. Comptroller of Finance Mr. Sukadev Tarei represented the University for signing this MoU. The workshop was attended by Assistant Director of Sericulture Department, Baripada Dr. Sudhansubala Naik along with various central officials and more than 50 tasar farmers. The event was coordinated by Prof. Hemanta Kumar Sahu, Dr. Puspanjali Parida from Department of Zoology and Dr. Karmaveer Jena.


Vasant Utsav @MSCBU

 



Vasant Utsav was celebrated in the premises of Maharaja Shriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University with with full gaiety and colors. The programme was presided by Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy. Journalist Sanjay Chowdhury attended the event as Chief Speaker and Dr. Pushpa Patra, Principal of  Bangiriposi Laxmikant College joined as Guest of Honor. They spoke about the unique connection between love and nature, while giving a vivid description of spring. On this occasion, poetry recital was held by the students of the University which was coordinated by Mr. Snehasheesh Mohanty, final year student of Int. B.Ed. M.Ed. Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo from Department of Odia proposed the vote of thanks.







Training Programme on How Best to Ensure Gender Equality in Tribal Areas: Role of Youth



A three-day training programme on "How Best to Ensure Gender Equality in Tribal Areas: Role of Youth" has been organized at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University by the Department of Anthropology & Tribal Studies in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Youth Development Institute, Tamil Nadu from 13th to 15th March, 2023. The workshop was inaugurated by Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy, President's award winning environmentalist Chami Murmu and Head of Department of Anthropology and Tribal Education Dr. Basant Kumar Mohanta.

The first day of the training programme began by a formal introduction of the workshop by Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar, Asst. Professor of the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies. Environmentalist Chami Murmu, who was the Chief Guest, gave an example of her own movement and described how her NGO, "Sahyogi Mahila" works in the field of women empowerment. Retired Reader of Economics Dr. Tarun Kumar Ojha presented on the important role of womens equality in economics. Dr. Minati Mallick, HoD of Economics discussed about violence against women and its remedies.

In the second day of the training camp, Prof. Deepak Midda of Vidyasagar University explained the real causes of gender inequality and expressed his opinion that problems like gender inequality can be solved easily only if women are exposed to education, participate in the economy and represent the public. Anthropologist and former census officer Dr. Gautam Bera presented photographs of Gond and Gadaba tribal women collected from his research and donated his edited journal books to the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies. On this occasion, Dr. Gautam Bera shed light on the perspective of gender equality on the parallels of equality and partnership. Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu, Asst. Professor of the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies, highlighted the importance of environmental feminism and expressed the opinion that women are the best environmentalists, citing the example of the Chipko movement.

On the final day of the training camp, Lora Prabha, Associate Professor at Mayurbhanj Law College, explained about the role of women in Panchayatiraj, reservation, and implementation. RRDC-OSACS Project Director Mr. Pramod Kumar Das discussed the social status of transgenders and highlighted the steps being taken to integrate transgenders into the mainstream of the society. Prakash Kumar Barik, Coordinator of UNICEF's Anti-Child Marriage Project, explained that it is important to be aware of gender inequality at the family level. All those present on this occasion were made to recite the oath for gender equality. At the end, Prof. Basanti Rajendran, Programme Coordinator of Rajiv Gandhi National Youth Development Institute, was present online and expressed the purpose of the programme. Certificates were distributed to the participants. Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu offered the vote of thanks. The three-day long programme was coordinated by Associate Professor Dr. Monali Goswami, Asst. Professor Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar, Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu, and  Dr. Priyanka Das.


Classical Odia Language Day Celebrations @MSCBU

 




On the occasion of 10th Classical Language Day, a state level conference was held at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on Saturday, 11th March, 2023. Chairman of the University PG Council and the President of the University Literary and Cultural Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy inaugurated the conference and spoke about the importance of celebrating the Classical Language Day. The Editor of the University Literature and Cultural Council Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo introduced the theme of the meeting, introduced the guests and highlighted the importance of the Odia language in his speech. In this seminar titled "Jati Gathana re Bhashara Bhumika (Role of Language in ethnicity structuring)", Dr. Ashutosh Prayas Dash, Asst. Professor and Head in the Department of Commerce of MPC Autonomous college participated as the keynote speaker and addressed on the identity of Odia caste and Odia language. He said that Odia language has reached the status of today after a lot of struggle among all the Indian languages. Prof. Susmita Kar, Professor of Physics Department of the University, joined the conference as the guest of honor and gave a speech about the role of today's youth in enriching Odia language and literature. Mr. Barada Prasanna Das, Retired Additional Director, Information and Public Relations Department, joined and narrated the events of the early attempts of to provide classical status to the Odia language. Mr. Bhagabata Panda, founder editor of Pratishruti Sahitya Anushthaan, spoke about how language and literature can elevate human life. On this occasion, poetry reading was done by the students. In the end, Vice President of the University Literary and Cultural Council, Associate Professor & Head of the Department of Zoology, Prof. Puspanjali Parida offered vote of thanks. The conference was attended by the faculty members and students of the University.





Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights @MSCBU

 





A workshop titled "Intellectual Property Rights, Its Commercialization and Technology Transfer" was held at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 10th March, 2023. The event was organized by the KIIT Technology Business Incubator and Patent Office, Kolkata in collaboration with the University Innovation Club and MPC Autonomous College on behalf of the Government of India's National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM). The workshop was inaugurated by Chairman PG Council, Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy, who in his speech called upon the researchers and students of the University to develop entrepreneurship mindset by creating patents, copyrights and designs. Head of University Innovation Club and Assistant Professor of Computer Application Department Dr. Prasanta Kumar Swain, delivering his welcome address, said that the students should identify new innovations from the daily routines of life. Mr. Dhiren Pattanaik, Patent Examiner in Kolkata Patent Office explained the various types of patents and their registration process in detail and answered various questions from the audience. Dr. Amaresh Panda, lead of KIIT Technology Business Incubator in his address opined that everyone from school to University should try for patent and further turning them into businesses thereby creating employment for self and others. Photo Exhibition by Photography Club & Nature Club of MSCBU




The Photography Club and Nature Club of the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University organized a photo exhibition in the Zoology Department on 4th March, 2023. In this exhibition, a photo gallery comprising of photographs taken by university students was showcased. In a meeting organized on this occasion, Chairman PG Council Professor Pramoda Kumar Satapathy presided over the meeting and addressed his speech on how various clubs of the university are helping in the development of academic and natural environment of the University. Head of University Photography Club and Associate Professor of Zoology Department Dr. Puspanjali Parida introduced the guests, expressed the theme of the meeting and  highlighted how photography creates identity and binds everyone in a thread of unity. Director, IQAC  Professor M. Himabindu described how mankind's relationship with the nature can be discovered in the photographs displayed in the exhibition. Dr. Minati Mallick, Associate Professor of Economics & member of Nature Club discussed how photography represents nature and how we can protect our nature and environment. Associate Professor of the Anthropology and tribal Studies Dr. Basant Kumar Mohanta in his speech opined that photography is not a luxury but it can be means of livelihood. Finally, the head of Nature Club and Assistant Professor of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Department Dr. Ashok Kumar Mallik proposed vote of thanks. The faculty members of the university and students from various departments participated in the programme and made it a success.
