A
one-week short-term course on Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled
'Molecular Microbiology & Immunology' was inaugurated at MSCB University on
July 9, 2023. The event was organized by the Department of Biotechnology under
IDP-OHEPEE and inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. S. K. Tripathy, who served
as the Chief Guest. During his speech, Vice-Chancellor Professor Tripathy
highlighted the importance of Microbiology and Immunology for the diagnosis of
the COVID-19 pandemic. He also emphasized the need for a shift in attitude
towards studying for the sake of acquiring knowledge rather than obtaining a
certificate. Professor M. Himabindu, Chairman, PG Council (I/C), presided over
the inaugural function. She emphasized the importance of yeast in curd, microbes
in Handia preparation, and the role of Immunology in various diseases such as
arthritis. Prof. H. N. Thatoi, Coordinator, IDP, mentioned that microorganisms
form the foundation of the biosphere and sustain all life on earth. Joining as
the Guest of Honor, Dr. R. Rabindran, Emeritus Professor and Former Director of
ILS, Bhubaneswar, highlighted that the host versus pathogen has become the
central theme of attempts to understand infectious diseases. Serving as the
Chief Speaker, Dr. R. C. Roy, Former Director, CTCRI, Bhubaneswar, described
how fermented foods provide and preserve vast quantities of nutritious health
in a wide variety of flavors, aromas, and textures, enriching the human diet
with nutrients, vitamins, and bioactive compounds. Dr. B. Rath, HoD, introduced
the guest, and Dr. S.K. Nayak, course coordinator of FDP, provided information
about the Biotechnology Department and registered participants. Dr. S.K. Sahu,
Department of Biotechnology, gave a formal vote of thanks. Vice-Chancellor Prof.
Tripathy also unveiled the training manual of the program during the event.
Forty-five participants from various colleges and universities in Odisha and
other states participated in the programme.
