A Two days
National Seminar on ‘Research for Protection of Animals’ was organized by
Department of Zoology in collaboration with Zoological Society of Orissa on 29th &
30th March 2022. Chief guest Padma Shri Prof. Aditya Prasad
Dash, Vice Chancellor, AIPH, Bhubaneswar inaugurated this event and emphasised
in his deliberations on the role of rare species, their existence and
improvement on elimination of seven major infectious diseases. Prof. S.K.Dutta,
President, ZSO has focused on the role and function of Zoological society and
its impact on welfare of mankind. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, MSCB University,
Prof. K.K.Basa has expressed his concern on the protection of rare species in
Similipal and the impact of climate change on biodiversity. Prof. H.K.Sahu was
the Convener of this event. At the outset Dr G.Sahu, Secretary, ZSO,
highlighted the detailed fixture of the programme. Dr Puspanjali Parida, Dr
Cuckoo Mohapatra, Dr. P.R.Debta and Dr G.Mohanty have coordinated the function.
Students and staff were present and actively participated in this two day
programme.
DAE-BRNS Outreach Theme Meeting
An Outreach Theme Meeting on “Societal Applications of Nuclear Science and Technology” organised by the Department of Atomic Energy – Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (GoI) was held at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University, Baripada on 25-27th March 2022. A delegation of 26 eminent nuclear scientists led by Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre along with Dr. Asoka Kumar Das, Vice Chairman, Odisha State Higher Education Council attended this outreach meeting.
As a historic occasion for the state, this is for the first time in Odisha that a high profile delegation from the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) led by Dr. Ajit K. Mohanty, Director, BARC including scientists from BARC, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Institute of Physics and NISER visited the University.
As part of commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, this event was was jointly organized by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences , Institute of Physics (IOP), National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), and Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University in association with Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists & Allied Scientists (IANCAS).
The inaugural ceremony started with paying homage to Prof. Srikumar Banerjee, Former Chairman, Department of Atomic Energy who was the conceiver of this programme. Chief guest of the event Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty in his address, recalled the history and glory of his birthplace Mayurbhanj and his educational life in Mayurbhanj. He expressed that research should not done for the sake of research rather it should reach the real life of the masses. He remembered Prof. Jogesh Pati who is a son of the soil of Baripada and highlighted his contribution to nuclear physics. He also envisioned the popularisation of Mayurbhanj chhau dance in the country and informed that soon Mayurbhanj Chhau will be performed in Anushakti Nagar, the residential township of BARC in Mumbai.
In the welcoming address, Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University described the event as a historic occasion for the state which will provide an excellent platform for the scientists, academicians and research scholars to exchange their knowledge on recent applications of Nuclear Science & Technology in different disciplines. Such programmes will for sure create an environment for research towards upliftment of the tribals of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar district. He opined that this type of outreach program will help in raising the aspiration of tribal youths through science. The students, research scholars and younger faculty members will be benefited by establishing collaboration between DAE sponsored national institutes both in research and internships.
Dr. Asoka Kumar Das, Vice Chairman, Odisha State Higher Education Council in his address, expressed that the Make in India initiatives has a tremendous opportunities for sustainable development. The program will be very much important to spread the technology developed in the lab to the people of Odisha. He also emphasized that Government of Odisha is taking keen interest in developing research ecosystem across the state and the Higher Education Council is functioning as an umbrella organization by implementing various teaching and research initiatives.

The University felicitated Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty for for being conferred on ‘Bhumiputra Sanmana’. On behalf of BARC Dr. Mohanty donated a GM counter to the University for the benefit of students.. On behalf of the University, all the dignitaries present on the stage were felicitated with the mementos. Vice Chancellor Prof. Basa felicitated Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty's mother Smt Ratnamani Mohanty with Uttariya. Former Health Minister of Jharkhand, Dr Dinesh Sadangi honored Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty with Uttariya and urged upon the scientists to address health issues in the Jaduguda region due to uranium mining.
This two day event witnessed an exhibition of 38 outreach Posters and BARC Technologies which was inaugurated by the chief guest and other distinguished guests. Dr. Ajit Mohanty and other distinguished scientists interacted with the farmers of Mayurbhanj and explained the practical aspects of nuclear technology in agriculture. The delegation also interacted with the print and electronic media about various societal applications using the technologies of BARC. Scientists from BARC shown the demo of various BARC technologies such as AKRUTI – Spin-off Technologies, Nuclear Agriculture & Biotechnology and Food Technologies. Experiments with Nuclear Physics instruments such as GM Counter and E2: NaI(Tl) Detector were demonstrated to the participants. The delegation also visited various departments of the university and exchanged views with faculty members and research scholars. The event was attended by the research scholars, students, faculty members, agriculture officials of Mayurbhanj district, farmers and local entrepreneurs.
National Webinar on ‘Passages through India’ organised by Department of English, 2nd Campus
A national
webinar on the theme of colonialism and travel was organised by the department
of English, MSCBU, Keonjhar Campus on 17 March 2022. Titled, Passages through
India, the online seminar featured three scholars who spoke on the significance
of travel in the context of colonialism.
First Odisha Inter-University Competition - Games & Sports- 2022
In a landmark achievement to its credit, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjdeo University hosted the first Odisha Inter-University Competitions (Games & Sports) with the sponsorship of the Department of Higher Education. The event which was held from 11 to 14 March will feature 14 games: cricket, football, badminton, carom, chess, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, and kabaddi. The inaugural ceremony of the competition was held at Baripada Stadium on 11-03-2022 Friday. The game was inaugurated by Shri Shaswat Mishra, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, and Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University. Mr. Vineet Bharadwaj, Collector, Mayurbhanj was the Guest of Honor. Nearly 1250 participants from 15 universities namely Central University of Odisha, Utkal University, Sambalpur University, Berhampur University, Ravenshaw University, Ramadevi Women’s University, Gangadhar Meher University, Kalahandi University, Rajendra University, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University, Centurion University, Shri Jagannath Sanskrit University, Fakir Mohan University and Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University along with 100 managers and 100 match officials. In the inaugural address, Mr. Shaswat Mishra said that for the first time, these games were planned for enriching extracurricular activities among students thereby encouraging and motivating them in a post-Covid environment. With the participation of both private and public Universities, such games will help students in communicating with students of other Universities and raise their competitiveness. Vice Chancellor Professor Basa thanked the state government for providing the opportunity to host such a mega sports event in a remote district like Mayurbhanj and thanked all the sports institutions of Mayurbhanj, the district administration for extending their help. Collector, Mr. Vineet Bharadwaj called the holding of such a sports event in Mayurbhanj a matter of pride and glory. Registrar Sahadev Samadhia offered the vote of thanks. Chairman, PG Council Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Prof. Anil K Biswal, Comptroller of finance Mr. Sukdev Tarei Sports Council Secretary Dr. Indrajith Nayak coordinated the inaugural ceremony. The torch procession started off from Ambika Mandir, the presiding deity of Baripada, and marched around the city to reach Baripada Stadium. The students of NSS welcomed the contestants with dance and music. The parade was led by the district police band. State anthem "Bande Utkal Janani '' was played followed by swearing-in of the contestants. Vice Chancellor Prof. Basa hoisted the University flag and Principal Secretary Shri Shaswat Mishra hoisted the game flag.
In the closing ceremony of the games, the parade of the players was headed by the police band. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor K. Basa put out the game torch and lowered the games flag to declare the games closed. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor kumar Basa, Chairman PG Council Prof. P. K. Satapathy, General Secretary of Mayurbhanj Athletic Association Shri Bijay Kumar Das, Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia, Secretary Sports Council Dr. Indrajit Naik were the dignitaries present in the dias. Later, a prize distribution ceremony was held in the Auditorium open arena of University campus. Prof. Basa in his address, thanked the entire University staff, students, all the players, match officials, Principals of all the affiliated colleges, Principal & Staff of Baripada College, Principal & staff of Loyla public school, members of Shankhabhanga Panchayat, members Mayubhanj Athletic Association, members of Mayurbhanj Athletic Association, members of Station Bazar Athletic Association and other sports institutions of Baripada, the members of print and elec the public of Mayurbhanj for their whole hearted support in making this event a grand success. He also thanked Mr. Vineet Bharadwaj, Collector, Mayurbhanj, Shri Abani Mohanty, Mayurbhanj District Sports Officer, Mayurbhanj District Information Public Relation Officer Shri Rabindra Kumar Nayak for their support in organizing this event.
The cultural programmes organized in the University auditorium on the sidelines of the event were a great crowd puller. The popular events were Santali folk-dance by Dr. Jateendra Nath Besra & team, Shiba Tandaba Nrutya and group Chhau dance performed by the artists of Uttar Sahi Chhau Pratishthan of Baripada, Jhumar performed by the artists of Maa Dwarashuni Jhumar Anushthan of Rairangpur, dance performance by Ollywood actress and student of MSCB University Ms. Manisha Dhar, Melodious song performance by Sri Pradeep Kumar Dwibedi and Mr. Prem kumar of of MSCB University. The cultural programme was coordinated by Sri Umesh Sahu, Sri Somanath Singh and Sri Jayant Kumar Tripathy.
All the faculty, staff, and students of the University, sports fans from Mayurbhanj joined the event to cheer the participants and created a festive atmosphere.
National Seminar on the "Importance of Japanese Language in India"
The P.G. Department of English and Odia of MSCBU
jointly organised a National Seminar on the "Importance of Japanese
Language in India" on 13.03.2022. The event was inaugurated by Prof.
P.K.Satapathy, Chairman, P.G. Council, put forward his introductory remark and
introduced the guests. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. N.K.Panda,
highlighting the scope of the topic and its relevance to the benefits of
Indians. Prof. K.C.Satapathy and Prof. P.K.Patra from Utkal University shared
their views on the topic. On this occasion two books (Out of Nothingness and Achintya)
written by Dr. S.S.Dandapat, Department of English, MSCBU, were released. The
National Seminar begins with a welcome note by Dr. B.Sahoo and concluded with a
vote of thanks by Dr. S.S.Dandapat. The programme was attended by students and
staff.
National Seminar Organised by Department of Odia, MSCBU,2nd Campus, Keonjhar
A national seminar on the topic “Myth ra Nabikaran O Sampratika Odia Sahitya”
was organised by the department in physical mode on 11th March
2022.. Prof. B.K.Satapathy (Utkal University) and Prof. B.C.Samal (Visva Bharati
University) graced the occasion as speakers. On this occasion Prof. Samal,
emphasised the need to understand the idea behind ‘Myth’ to appreciate it
better. Prof. Satapathy, remarked that ‘Myth’ act as bridge between the past
and the present. The event was presided by Prof. B.B.Mahapatra, Head,
Department of Odia. Dr Sisira Behera proposed the formal vote of thanks.
Workshop-Cum-Training Programme for Tribal Youth
A three-day training programme on “Making Tribal
Youth self-reliant: Skill Development training to graduating tribal youth of
Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University” was organized by the Department
of Anthropology and Tribal studies, MSCB University in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth
Development, Chennai from 07th to 9th March 2022.
In the inaugural session Prof. K.K.Basa, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Prof.
P.K.Satpathay, Chairman. P.G Council graced the occasion as Chef Guest and
Guest of Honour. During the workshop Resource persons spoke largely on the role
of youth in nation building, in local resource management and mobilization of community
resources, mapping of resources, career enhancement, life skill development,
entrepreneurship development and livelihood promotion of tribal youths through
arts and crafts. The basic objective of the programme was to train students
about the entrepreneurship so that after graduation they can generate their
income and enhance their livelihood options.
Celebration of International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day 2022 was celebrated by ‘Anti-Sexual Harassment
Cell’ of MSCB University. Prof. P.K.Satapathy, Chairman P. G. Council, chaired
the session and Prof. Himabindu M., focused on the theme ‘Break The Bias’ with a welcome note. Prof. P.K.Satapathy
highlighted the socio-economic-cultural-political achievements of women and
emphasised on the action for gender parity. Prof. Susmita Kar, discussed on the
contribution of women in the socio-political sphere as well as in global peace
& security and stressed to equip them with self-defence technique. Dr. B.Hansdah
proposed a formal vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, participants and
members present.
