Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University organized a seminar titled 'Role of Youth in Social Change in Tribal Areas' on 13th April, 2023. The seminar was jointly organized by the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies and UNICEF and was inaugurated by Professor Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Chairman of the PG Council.
Dr. Basanta Kumar Mohanta, the head of the Department of ATS, delivered the welcome speech. Prakash Kumar Barik, the coordinator of the Child Marriage Prevention Project, discussed the program's objectives. Sugaata Roy, the UNICEF Field Officer, discussed the role of youth studying Anthropology and Tribal Studies in social change and encouraged them to undertake research related to tribal issues and intern at UNICEF. B.N. Durga, the Senior Program Manager, provided information about the Fifth Article of the Constitution and discussed the role of youth. Dr. Aditya Patra, the Associate Professor of Economics, advised on the need for the youth to play a unique role in transforming society.
The Head of the Department of Economics, Dr. Minati Mallik, the Head of the Department of Social Work, Mr. Suvendu Kumar Satapathy, and Asst. Professor Sujay Kundu were present at the event. The coordination of the event was undertaken by Dr. Priyanka Das and Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar, Asst. Professors at the Department of ATS.
The seminar was attended by students of MBA, MSW, and Economics. Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu, an Asst. Professor at the Department of ATS, proposed the vote of thanks. At the end of the programme, the UNICEF team visited the cultural museum of the University.
