The Similipal biosphere reserve was ravaged by devastating forest fires
during 2021. The fire had a severe impact on the lives of plants, animals and
the biodiversity of the area. Starting from December 2021 to January 2022, a
continuous awareness campaign was organized by the Department of Social Work
under the guidance of Dr S.K.Satpathy. In the presence of Hon’ble Vice
Chancellor, Prof K.K.Basa, District collector ShriVineet Bhardwaj (IAS),
Superintendent of Police Shri Rishikesh D Khilari, Shri S.Samadhia, Registrar,
Comptroller of Finance Shri S.Tarei, the students cum NSS volunteers has rolled
the awareness vehicle to many degree colleges and village areas of Mayurbhanj
district to make them aware of the menace of forest fires, helps them to
understand the magnitude of the problem and the role they can play in reducing
it.
