Closing Ceremony of East-Zone Inter-University Kabaddi Competition

 

The closing ceremony of the East Zone Inter-University Men's Kabaddi Tournament was held at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 27 November, 2022. Padmashri Dr. Damayanti Beshra attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest and in her address, highlighted the role of sports for physical and mental well-being. Secretary of University Sports Council Dr. Pravanjan Mallik read out the event report. Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia expressed his opinion that such a competition would be helpful for the future of the students and expressed his gratitude to all the staff and students of the University for successfully organizing this competition. Trophies were awarded to the 4 winning teams followed by flag-off and extinguishing of torch. Dr. Kabita Kumari Sahu, Asst. Professor of Economics delivered the welcome address. Secretary of Sports Council Dr. Pravanjan Mallik expressed expressed his gratitude to the former Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa for his visionary thinking and for creating the infrastructure for all its planning and organization and to the current Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy for his support in all aspects in conducting the competition.

For first, second and third places in the competition, competition was held among four universities who have advanced for East-zone  viz., VBS Purvanchal, Adamas University, C. V. Raman University, and JNC Balia. VBS Purvanchal defeated Adamas University 34-6 to win the Champions Trophy. Adamas University received the runners-up trophy. Similarly, C. V. Raman University defeated JNC Balia by 56-43 to secure third place.

In this four-day long competition, University P.E.T. Mr. Pradipta Ranjan Das, Mr. Satyanarayan Barik of MPC Autonomous College, Mr. Shraddhananda Sahu of Seemanta College, Mr. Dhananjay Tripathy of Sriramchandrabhanj College Raghadh, Mr. Tapas Kumar Samal of Baripada College contributed to the management of the major games. Mr. Ajay Kumar Behera, Khurda District Sports Officer, assisted the members of the protest committee in providing responsibilities and providing referees to conduct the games. Dr. Nilakantha Mishra of Balanga College and Mr. Asit Kumar Pal of Manithira Higher Secondary School helped in organizing all the games as members of the protest committee.

Constitution Day

Constitution Day was observed at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 26th November, 2023. In a meeting held in the conference hall of Academic Block-4, Vice Chancellor Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapthy presided over the meeting and discussed about this year's theme "India: The mother of democracy" and highlighted the democratic system in the Vedic era. Senior Judge Baripada Civil Court Shivani Samal joined as the Guest of Honour and in her speech she thoroughly explained every word in the preamble of the Constitution and advised to have faith and trust in the Constitution of India. Chief Speaker of the occasion, Mr. Srikant Rout, Reader of Political Science, Srima Mahila Mahavidyalayaopined that for every citizen, obeying the Constitution should not be a slavery but an ideal and the judiciary cautions us to act conscientiously by being aware of the basic duties given by the Constitution and the basic rights and duties given in the Constitution. He discussed the equal participation of all in a democracy and the relationship between the executive and the judiciary in a democratic system. Associate Professor of Department of Anthropology & Tribal Studies Dr. Monali Goswami gave the welcome address and HoD of Department of Odia, Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo proposed vote of thanks. The faculty and students of the university participated in this programme. On this occasion, all the players of the ongoing East Indian Inter-University Men's Kabaddi Tournament, match officials, all the faculty members and students of the university recited the oath of the Constitution.

Day 3 Roundup of East-Zone Inter-University Kabaddi competition

On the third day of the East Zone Inter-University Men's Kabaddi Tournament held at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 26 November, 2022. Four teams viz. C. V. Raman University, JNC Balia, Adamas University, VBS Purvanchal got qualified to play for the East-Zone.

In the matches played in the league stage, MSCB University beat OUAT 43-10, Utkal University beat Munger University 49-32, APS University Rewa beat Calcutta University 39-16, Pataliputra University beat ABV University Bilaspur 54-34, MSCB University beat Patna University 46-42, Utkal University beat KIIT University 47-23, Adamas University beat APS University Rewa 41-19, and Pataliputra University beat LN Mithila University by 50-39.

The group stage finals were held between the 8 teams that advanced to the last stage. In group-A, C. V. Raman University beat MSCB University 59-11, In group-B, JNC Balia defeated Utkal University 52-43. In Group-C, Adamas University defeated MG Kashi Vidyapeeth 43-38. Similarly, In Group D, VBS Purvanchal defeated Pataliputra University 63-29 to advance to the East Zone for the All-India Inter-University Tournament.

On the closing day, 6 matches will be held to determine the points between those 4 teams who have passed for the East Zone. Prizes will be awarded to these 4 teams at the event.

Inaugural Ceremony of East-Zone Inter-University Kabaddi Competition

 

The East Zone Inter-University Men's Kabaddi Tournament has been inaugurated on 24th November 2022 at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. Fakir Mohan University Vice-Chancellor Professor Santosh Kumar Tripathy joined the event as Chief Guest and greeted the players in the parade at the inauguration ceremony. The band was played by the Mayurbhanj district police. University Vice-Chancellor Professor Pramod Kumar Satapathy along with the Chief Guest hoisted the flag and announced the commencement of the games. In his speech, the Chief Guest Professor Tripathy said that the game is not just a competition but an opportunity to showcase one's talent. Prof. Satapathy in his speech thanked all the players and sports officials who participated from East India for contributing to this epic sporting event. Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia delivered the welcome speech. Secretary Sports Council Dr. Pravanjan Mallik proposed vote of thanks. Around 750 players and managers from more than 45 universities of eastern India are participating in this four-day Kabaddi competition.

In the first day's play, CVS Tech University defeated Sri Sri University by 44-11. Similarly, Hemchand Yadav University beat Ravenshaw University 56-14, Uttar Pradesh University beat Manipur University 42-36, ABV University Bilaspur beat Burdwan University 38-36, Centurion University beat Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University 36-33, SGG University Sarguja beat Berhampur University 44-29, Pataliputra University defeated Sambalpur University 57-19, Pandit Ravishankar University Raipur defeated AKS University Satna 39-2.

In the afternoon, VKS University beat OP Jindal University 54-20, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University beat SOA University 49-18, Munger University beat Tezpur University 47-19, Uttar Pradesh University beat Manipur University 42-36, TM Bhagalpur University beat Banaras Hindu University 37-32. A cultural program was organized in the university auditorium for the entertainment of the players. The event featured solos by Mr. Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi, Pradeep Kumar Lenka, Namitha Mishra, Prem Kumar, Tanmay Barik, Sumant Swain, Sataprakash Pati, Shovana Das, and Kavita Das. Similarly, Odissi dance by Sangeeta Murmu. Solo dance by Ujjayini Sethi, Pragyanmita Das and Aditya Mahapatram Duet dance by Subhangi and Pratiksha, Duet Samabalpuri dance by Satyabhama and Deepak, Group Sambalwari dance by Saishrita Mohant and group, Group dance by Mayurbhanj Art and Foundation and Santali dance by the Santali department were performed. The program was coordinated by students including Kasturiba Mohanta, Sonali Routray, Kumar Gourav Swain and others.

University P.E.T. Mr. Pradipta Ranjan Das and various recognized sports officials of Odisha state, sports teachers of the affiliated colleges of the University and staff of the University assisted in managing the program. A lot of enthusiasm was observed among the students and sports lovers of Mayurbhanj for organizing such a sports Mahakumbha for the first time in Baripada and the University.

Press Meet on East ‌Zone Inter-University Men's Kabaddi Tournament

A Press Meet was held to brief about the East ‌Zone Inter-University Men's Kabaddi Tournament to be held for the first time at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University from 24-11-2022 to 27-11-2022. About 850 players and match officials from 58 universities in eastern India will participate in this even. 13 teams from Odisha, 10 from Chhattisgarh, 9 from West Bengal, 9 from Bihar, 7 from Uttar Pradesh, 3 from Madhya Pradesh, 2 from Jharkhand, 2 from Manipur, one from Tripura, one from Arunachal Pradesh and one team from Assam are participating in this mega event. The teams have been divided into 4 groups. There are 14 teams in Group-A and Group-B and 15 teams in Group-C and Group-D.

The Group A comprises of Guru Ghasidash University, B.B.M.K. University, Dhanbad, Sidho Kanha Birsa University, I.G.TMS University,Arunacal Pradesh, Patna University, O.P.Jindal University, V.K.S. University, Ara, O.U.A.T,BBSR, Visva-Bharati University, D.D.U. Gorakhpur Üniversity, S.O.A. University, BBSR, M.S.C.B University,Baripada, Sidhartha University, UP, and C.V.Raman University. Group B comprises of KIIT University, BBSR, M.G.C.G University,Satna , Tripura University, Sri Sri University,Cuttack, CSV Tech University,Bhilai, Berahampur University, SGG University, Sarguja, Central University of South Bihar, Tezpur University,Assam, Munger University, Manipur Universit, Utkal University, G.M.University Sambalpur, and J.N.C. University,Raipur, AKS University,Satna, S.N.Sanskrit University,Varanasi, University of Kalyani, Jadavpur University, A.P.S. University, Rewa, Banaras Hindu University, T.M.Bhagalpur University, Centurion University,BBSR, Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University, University of Calcutta, and M.G.Kashi Vidyapith. Group D comprises of L.N.Mithila University, SMK University,Bastar, University of North Bengal, Ravenshaw University,Cuttack, Hemchand Yadab University, Ranchi University, F. M. University, Balasore, B.B.A.Bihar University, West Bengal State University, A.B.V. University,Bilashpur, University of Burdwan, Sambalpur University, Pataliputra University, Magadh University, and V.B.S.Purbanchal University.

The matches will start daily at 7:30 am and 2 pm. Teams will report 30 minutes before the match. The inauguration ceremony will be held on 24-11-2022 at 3:00 pm and closing ceremony will be held on 27-11-2022 at 3:00 pm. Vice Chancellor of Fakir Mohan University Professor Santosh Kumar Tripathy will be the chief guest in the inauguration ceremony.

The preparations for this event have now reached the final stage. The students and sports lovers are very excited as Baripada and the university are going to organize such a sports event for the first time. To make this sports festival a success, Vice-Chancellor In-Charge and Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy, Registrar Mr. Sahadeva Samadhia, Comptroller of Finance Mr. Manas Kumar Patra, Secretary Sports Council Dr. Pravanjan Mallik and P.E.T. Santali Film Festival & Film-making Workshop @MSCBU

 

An Indian Santali Film Festival and Training Camp has been inaugurated at the University on 14th Ocober, 2022. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Besa inaugurated the programme jointly organized by the University and Santali Art & Film Development Foundation and expressed that such a program is a new step in the history of the University. Rajya Sabha Member and former Minister of Odisha Sarojini Hembram attended as the Chief Guest. Kandan Majhi, Chairman of Purnachandra Government Industrial Training Institute, Baripada, Social activist Digi Murmu, Odisha's first woman tribal music director Hinsi Murmu, Social activist Anant Alok Baske were the guests of honor. They expressed their views on the current state and direction of Santali cinema and lauded the event as an innovative effort to save Santali language, literature, culture and art. At the beginning of the three-day programme, the dignitaries garlanded an oil painting of Pandit Raghunath Murmu, creator of Santali Alchiki script. In this training programme, various film makers and artists imparted training on various aspects of film making. The even was coordinated Asst. Professor of Santali deparrtment Dr. Jatindra Nath Beshra and cine-artist and director Mr. Deepak Kumar Beshra.

Seminar on 'Role of Tribal Leaders in Indian Struggle for Independence' @2nd Campus MSCBU

 

A national seminar titled "Role of Tribal Leaders in Indian Freedom Struggle" was held on 29th September, 2022 in the second campus of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Keonjhar and National Commission of Scheduled Tribes as part of the celebration of Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav. National Scheduled Tribes Commission member and former Lok Sabha member Mr. Anant Naik joined as the Chief Guest and in his address gave detailed information about the collective rights of the tribal people and their history. Prof. Rajkishore Hansda, All India Coordinator of "Janajati Suraksha Mancha", attended as the keynote speaker and highlighted the great contribution of Indian tribal leaders in the national freedom movement. Senior Legal Consultant of the commission Mr. Radhakanta Tripathy joined as Guest of Honour and gave a detailed explanation about the laws and rights meant for tribals. University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa presided over the conference and spoke about the self-dependence of the tribals and called upon everyone to respect them. Prof. Babrubahan Mohapatra, Director of the Second campus of the University welcomed the guests at the beginning and in his speech discussed about the purpose of the conference. Assistant Professor of Odia Dr. Shishir Behera moderated the programme and offered the vote of thanks. Students and intellectuals of the tribal community from various colleges attended the conference and participated in the interactive session. On this occasion, a photo exhibition on tribal leaders in Indian freedom struggle was showcased.

All India Mundari Writers' Conference

 

All-India Mundari Writers' Conference was held at the conference hall of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 25 September, 2022. It was organized in association with the All-India Mundari Writers' Organization on the occasion of the foundation day of the Organization. The conference was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa who was the Chief Guest of the occasion. In his address Prof. Basa discussed the uniqueness of Mundari language. The conference was organized under the chairmanship of President of the All-India Mundari Writers' Organization Mr. Soma Singh and was coordinated by Secretary of the organization Mr. Birbal Singh. In this conference, Former Vice Chancellor or Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University Ranchi Dr. Satyanarayan Munda  was the Chief Speaker and Mr. Madanmohan Soren, Convenor of Santali Sahitya Academy was the special guest and Secretary of  Odia Bhasha Jagrana Mancha Mr. Sarat Chandra Nayak, Presidents of All-India organization Mr. Nandalal Singh and Ramchandra Singh joined as Guests of Honor. The speakers demanded to open a department of Mundari language in the University. On this occasion, a book titled "HamThu" written by Ms. Mugunimani Singh of Astajharan and "Mundari Bani ra Hastakshara" written by Mr. Budhia Singh of Badasahi were released. The Mundari Writers' Organization has again given the demand letter made in 2013 by Odisha Mundari Samaj Samar Jamda" Organization to Vice Chancellor Prof. Basa to open a Mundari language department in the university. 

In the second phase of the conference, the discussion titled 'Impact of Antiquity in relation to Mundari language and literature in the current situation' was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Subas Munda. Mr. Birbal Singh and Hesel Sahu participated in the discussion moderated by Tanuja Munda. In the third phase, 14 poets recited Mundari poetry under the chairmanship of Mr. Ramachandra Singh and moderated by Er. Sunaram Singh. In the fourth phase, under the chairmanship of Mr. Nandlal Singh and moderated by Mr. Bodh Munda, 6 writers recited their own-written short stories. In the evening, the valedictory ceremony was held under the patronage of OAS Officer Mr. Madan Singh. It was moderated by Retired B.D.O. Mr. Duguru Charan Singh. Mundari movie director Bilkan Prabhudayal Nag, popular artists like Mr. Dashrath Singh, Kahnucharan Singh, Basant Kumar Singh, Satchidananda Singh, Dharmapada Singh and Rajendra Singh were the major contributors in this event. At the end Mangal Singh, President of Odisha Munda Students' Union, offered vote of thanks. At the end of the conference, the "Senage Susun Kazige Durang" team performed Mundari dance and song.

Seminar and Poster exhibition on 'Role of Tribal Leaders in Indian Struggle for Independence'

 

A seminar on Role of Tribal Leaders in Indian Freedom Struggle was organized by the National Commission of Scheduled Tribes at MSCB University on 15th September, 2022. Hon'ble member of the commission Mr. Ananta Nayak was the Chief Guest of the event. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nayak hailed this event as part of Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav and spoke about the roles played by the tribals of India in Indian Freedom Struggle. He also advised tribals to be aware of their rights and move forward to write about their own culture and history. Senior Legal Consultant of the commission Mr. Radhakanta Tripathy discussed about the vairous activities and legal frameworks of the commission and answered various questions from the audience. Chief speaker of the event, president of the Mayurbhanj Santal Bhanjadisham Pargana Mr. Sanatan Murmu narrated with facts about various contributions of tribals of Odisha and India in India's journey towards independence. The seminar was chaired by Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy. Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia gave the introductory speech while HoD of Santali Department Dr. Jatindra Nath Beshra offered vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by Prof.in Charge of SC/ST Cell Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar.

The event began by garlanding at the statue of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo by the dignitaries. Before the beginning of the seminar, a documentary film showcasing the Indian Freedom Struggle was presented to the audience. Later a cultural programme by tribal students was held. Later, a photo exhibition showcasing tribal freedom fighters of India was exhibited.

Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0 - Bootcamp @MSCBU

 

A bootcamp of Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0 launched by the Odisha state government, was inaugurated at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 14th October, 2022 by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa in the 200-seated conference hall. Thirteen students of the University presented their projects in this bootcamp of the Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0, which was started by Odisha government's MSME department and Startup Odisha with an aim to bring entrepreneurial awareness among the grassroots youth and promote women entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship among the youth. On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Basa in his speech called upon the students not to limit their research to research but to turn it into an enterprise and make themselves and others employable. On this occasion, on behalf of Technology Business Incubator of KIIT University Dr. Amaresh Panda and Asha Mahapatra from Startup Odisha informed the students about the purpose and methodology of Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0 and the role of Startup Odisha Yatra in building successful entrepreneurs and self-reliant individuals. In this bootcamp, five projects were selected by the jury for the next stage. Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy presented T-shirts and caps of Startup Odisha to the selected students. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Swarupananda Bissoyi, Assistant Professor of Department of Computer Application. Among others, Mr. Arpan Ghosh of KIIT TBI, Shritha Das of Startup Odisha and IQAC Director of the University Prof. M. Himabindu, Reader Dr. Puspanjali Parida, Associate Professor Dr. Minati Mallick, Dr. Pravanjan Mallik, Asst. Professor Dr. Guninidhi Dhangdamajhi, Dr. Jatindranath Beshra, Dr. Janmenjay Nayak, Dr. Sujay Kundu were present to boost the morale of the participants.

Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0 - Van Campaign @MSCBU

 

The van campaign of the Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0 by Govt. of Odisha has reached Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. The Yatra aims at scouting grassroots innovators, women entrepreneurs, and promoting entrepreneurship among the youth. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, Chairman P.G. Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy, faculty members and students welcome the startup campaign van. Speaking on this occasion Vice Chancellor Prof. Basa urged everyone to  develop the culture of idea generation in the University and make University an entrepreneurship hub in the north Odisha region. Chairman PG Council Prof. Satapathy welcomed the campaign and expressed the motivation behind this campaign i.e., to provide entrepreneurial exposure to the young minds. At the campaign van, students pitched their ideas. The volunteers of the Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0 discussed with students about various indigenous products that are available locally, and how to make people aware of such products and how they can lead to creation of industry and jobs. A startup bootcamp is further scheduled to be held on 14th September 2022.

Karam Parav at MSCBU

 

On the auspicious occasion of the Karam Parav, one of the major ritual-festival of Eastern India, the faculty members and students of the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies, planted a Karam tree in front of the Centre for Tribal Studies. "Karam parav"  is a spiritual and social festival. the tribal people celebrate this festival as  thanks   giving to their diety "Karam Gosain". The Karam Gosain, the god of good harvest and fertility will ensure prosperity and fertility. So on this auspicious day of Karam, Karam tree is worshiped which is regarded as most sacred, auspicious and symbol of fertility and prosperity for tribal communities of eastern India.

76th Independence Day Celebration at MSCBU

 

International Day of World's Indigenous People

 

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was celebrated at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University (MSCBU) by the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies (ATS) in collaboration with the Department of Santali, the Departments of Anthropology & Santali of MPC Auto. College Baripada and the New Bridge India, Bhubaneswar at the Centre for Tribal Studies building on 9th August 2022.

The theme of this year’s celebration is the “Role of indigenous women in the preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge.”

Speaking on the occasion Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kishor Basa emphasised the need for inclusiveness and understanding of tribal perspectives. Chief guest Dr Rajkishor Naik exhorted everyone to uphold tribal rights, dignity over land and other natural resources. Dr Basanta Kumar Mohanta, Head of the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies urged students to make a community-participated museum in the University.

On this occasion, an art exhibition was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor K Basa and Chief guest Dr Rajkishor Naik. The exhibition was based on the theme “What I am, I am” - an educational art project with artworks by Dr Rajashree Biswal, an internationally recognised art historian, cultural thinker and co-initiator of New Bridge India. The exhibition intended to create awareness among students and the public about the crucially significant grassroots level Adivasi women who have brought about changes in their life, within the community and society at large. Supported by Sarat Chandra Library. It is quite befitting to the theme of International Indigenous Day, 2022. 

The exhibition continued till August 13th at the University premises. Dr Rajashree Biswal and internationally reputed contemporary visual artist Birendra Pani, co-initiator of New Bridge India talked about the exhibits saying that these Adivasi women followed their instincts, chased their dreams, treaded the uncharted terrain, struggled hard, engaged in a sustained way, and championed the cause they believe in. Dr Biswal said that through their lives, practices, world-views and world-making perspectives, they have created a new paradigm of knowledge and experience for reconnecting with Earth and a life of sustainability and equality. Despite limitations and challenges in the social, economic, psychological, cultural and political spheres, these women have not only redefined the concept of gender in their personal lives but have reconfigured the concept of leadership in their communities and larger social spheres.

The exhibition highlights 14 digital portraits of important tribal women of Odisha and India – agriculturist and paddy seed preserver Padma Shri Kamala Pujari, agriculturist and biodiversity preserver Raimati Ghiuria, environmentalist Padma Shri Tulsi Gowda of Karnataka, and traditional medicine practitioner Padma Shri Lakshmi Kutti Amma of Kerala were exhibited in the domain of conservation and dissemination of traditional knowledge, maintaining ecological and biodiversity.

There are also portraits of a group of women who are preserving cultural forms and their diversity e.g, Saura exponent Lakhmi Sabara, iconic Dalkhai dancer late Gurubari Mirdha, folklorist Padma Shri Sukri Bammagowda of Karnataka, Santali writer Padma Shri Damayanti Besra, Kutia Kondha folklorist Basanti Majhi and Pallavi Durua – the first tribal queen- Adi Rani. Yet another group of women had worked in the sphere of socio-political leadership, tribal leader Droupadi Murmu-India’s first tribal President, social activist and educationist Padma Shri Tulasi Munda, forest and land rights activist Anna Kujur, Dongaria Kondha leader and forest right activist Dinja Jakesika and environmental activist Padma Shri Jamuna Tudu whose work on issues of tribal communities, modernity, development and mainstreaming have paved the way for a dignified life in the contemporary times.

Dr Biswal further added that these crucially significant women have created a new paradigm of interaction and exchange of knowledge and experiences of ‘indigeneity’ and ‘modernity’ and have redefined Adivasi identity, subjectivity and agency in contemporary times.

The symbols, motifs, colour schemes and atmosphere of the digital images reflect the different personalities and qualities of the protagonists, accentuating their distinct engagement in their socio-cultural context. It is encouraging a new (cultural) sensibility and awareness among the audience. Hundreds of students, faculties from different departments of the University as well as well-known economist and former director of Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies Prof. Srijit Mishra were present on the occasion and viewed the exhibition. Dr Rajkishor Naik appreciated it as a highly research-based and enriching experience. Prof. Basa was extremely happy sharing it as a very significant exhibition. Prof. Srijit Mishra lauded the exhibition as being of global standards.

Following the interest of Prof. Mishra and Prof. Basa, the theme of the exhibition “What I am, I am!!” was translated and the statement was delivered in various languages by the students and faculty of the university where Seemamani Majhi spoke in Santali, Sabita Singh in Mundari, Sumitra Purty in Ho, Sanjay Mahali in Mahali, Shriya Mohanta in Kudmali, Subhadra Nath in Odia, Dr Priyanka Das in Hindi, Dr Monali Goswami in Bengali and Dr Rajashree Biswal in English to promote linguistic and cultural diversities in a symbolic gesture. They performed the Santali dance in the natural ambience of the scenic and beautiful atmosphere of the MSCBU making it a true celebration of the spirit of the indigenous community in contemporary times.

Invited Lecture at Placement Cell

 

The Placement Cell of MSCBU organized an Invited Lecture on 20th July 2022. The lecture was given by Odisha Head of Tata Steel Corporate CSR Dr. Ambika Prasad Nanda who interacted with students about skill development & job placement. Coordinator of the Cell Dr. Kabita K. Sahu gave the welcome address and introduced the guest. This event was attended by students and faculty members of Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, Social Work, Computer Application and Library Information & Sc. At the end Dr. Sitaram Das, Asst. Professor of Business Adminstration department delivered the vote of thanks.

Regional Samvaad - Tribal Conclave at MSCBU

 

A two-days Regional Samvaad - Tribal Conclave was held from 19th to 20th July 2022 at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. The event marks the birth anniversary of Bhagwaan Birsa Munda of Jharkhand.  This programme was organized by Tata steel Foundation in collaboration with the University. Tata steel Foundation is working  for development of communities around nearby area. Supporting ethnic group in practicing  their culture, tradition and customs is one of the most important activities. This year's regional Samvaad programme was targeted for the district of Mayurbhanj towards preservation and promotion of tribal culture with participation and thought sharing of tribal leaders, youth leaders and women. As many as 117 participants from 8 districts attended this conclave and deliberated upon tribal health practices, livelihood, tribal identity, and education. The event was coordinated by  Shri Ambika prasad Nanda, Head CSR Odisha, Tata Steel, Shri Jiren Xavier Topno, Head of Tribal Cultural Society, Jamshedpur, Dr. Jatindra Nath Beshra from the department of Santali and Shri Suvendu Satapathy from the department of Social work of MSCBU.

Celebration of 25th Foundation Day

 

The 25th founding day of Maharaja Sri Ramchandra Bhanjadeo University was celebrated on July 13, 2022 in a grand ceremony at the University Conference Annex. Hall. It was officiated by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa and Former Vice Chancellor of Ravenshaw University Prof. Prakash Chandra Shadangi was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof. Shadhangi in his address, described Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo as a philosophical king and pointed out his important role in the construction of modern Odisha. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the faculty, students and non-teaching staff on the 25th foundation day of the University. He said that today's youth will play an active role in the reconstruction of 21st century India. He opined that while the uniqueness of the individual must be given importance, what is more important is how it can contribute to the collective growth of the whole without diminishing the uniqueness of the others. Vice Chancellor Prof. Basa expressed that University is putting whole hearted effort to make it a leading institution of the state. He asked for cooperation from all the stakeholders for the events to be held in the silver jubilee year of the University. He glorified the achievements in the past year in hosting the first inter-university games & sports competition, DAE-BARC-BRNC Outreach Theme meeting, first Annual Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo Lecture etc.

In the foundation day, the University awarded the "Bhoomi Gaurav" samman to Mr. Girish Chandra Murmu, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India who is from Mayurbhanj District and Dr. Banalta Mohanty, Professor & Head of Department of Zoology at Allahabad University who is from Keonjhar district. The University felicitated Prof. Anil Kumar Biswal, who retired from the University's Department of Botany on March 31, 2022, and Mr. Gyanendra Kumar Sethi, Deputy Registrar who retired on 30-09-2022. Among the non-teaching staff of the University, Mr. Pradeep Baral, Senior Stenographer from Class III (Group-C) category and Mr. Ramchandra Mukhi, Wachman-cum-Sweeper from Class IV (Group-D) category were honoured as the best employees for the year 2022. Mr. Hemananda Behera, student from Department of Zoology, was awarded the Kumudini Memorial Award for his highest marks in the PG examination in 2021 and Keshab Chandra Mahanta of BB College, Harichandanpur, Keonjhar was awarded the Best History Graduate in 2021. For NSS, Dr. Priyabrata Behera of MPC Auto College was awarded as the best programme officer and  Satyabhama Das of MSCB University, Deepshikha Bindhani of Baripada College, Gulsan Khatua of Karanjia Auto College and Adarsh Kumar Rout of MPC Auto College were awarded as the best volunteers. Baripada College was awarded as the best women wing and MPC Auto College as the best male wing. Later, The University felicitated Mrs. Gita Mishra, Former General Manager, State Bank of India, and Mrs. Tilottama Basa, Former Managing Director, Odisha Mining Corporation.

At the beginning of the event, students sang the University Anthem. Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Chairman, PG Council introduced the guests and gave a welcome address. The Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia, read out the annual report and briefed about the various development projects in 2021-22. Comptroller of the Mr. Shukadev Tarei gave the vote of thanks. The meeting ended with singing of Vande Utkal Janani.

Earlier in the morning, the newly constructed garden surrounding the statue of the Maharaja was inagurated by the Chief Guest followed by garlanding of the statue of the Maharaja.

Training Programme on e-Resources provided by OSHEC

A training programme for students, research scholars and faculty members regarding e-Resources provided by Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) was held on 11-07-2022. The training was conducted in four batches. OSHEC has got two e-Resource subscriptions namely EBSCO - a leading aggregator of eBooks & Journals and Elsevier ScienceDirect (10 subjects) journals. OSHEC has enabled the access for all the stakeholders of Universities and colleges via OpenAthens - a Single-Sign-On service using which each of the users get an individual userid and password to access the e-Resources. The training was conducted by Mr. Raj Kumar Mahapatra, Training Manager (east) - EBSCO India. The training focused on the https://eresources.oshec.in/ portal, EBSCO e-Resources, and how to use the portal to access e-resources via web and mobile platform.

International Yoga Day 2022

The 8th International Day of Yoga 2022 (IDY) was celebrated at MSCB University on 21st of June 2022. The central theme for the 8th IDY was “YOGA FOR HUMANITY” (Yoga for Peace & Harmony). The event was spearheaded by the Department of Yoga & Naturopathy along with all other departments of University. Vice  Chancellor, Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa was the Chief guest and P.G Council Chairman Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy presided over the event. The event started with paying great reverence to Lord Surya and performing Surya Namaskar early in morning with staffs and students. Then the practice of Common Yoga Protocol followed lighting of lamp. In his address, Prof. Basa highlighted the importance of mental health along with physical health in the academia. He thus proposed Yoga as a primary means to achieve all-round development of the students. Prof. Satapathy elabrated “Yoga for Humanity” as the central theme and suggested students to practice Yoga everyday by making it a lifestyle to achieve absolute Health, Happiness and Harmony. The program was a huge success and ended with singing of National Anthem. A team from NSS, Baripada conducted various Yoga competitions like Quiz, Debate, Drawing etc. They also performed many Yogic pyramid formation with an advance asanas exhibition. Students, staff, faculty members, and many dignitaries from and outside the University joined the event.

National Workshop Organised by Department of Computer Science

A National Level Workshop on “Python Programming” was organized by the Department of Computer Science, MSCBU during 20-26 June 2022. The function was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof Kishor Kumar Basa. He emphasized the increasing importance of building and test Machine Learning models in python codes along with its prowess in data visualization and analytics. The inaugural session started with the welcome note of the Convener, Dr. Janmenjoy Nayak highlighting the brief history and motivation behind the developmental aspects of Python programming. Prof. P.K.Satapathy, the Chairman, PG Council, has addressed the importance of Python language at all level. The invited resource person Ms. Urvashi Nag from CSIR Lab, Chandigarh has opined about the real life applicability and usage level of Python at different level of science and engineering. Dr. Sharmila Subudhi, the co-convener has tendered the vote of thanks. Dr. S.S.Basa and Dr. P.S.Mishra were the organizing chairs for the event. The weeklong workshop attracted more than 150 participants across 8 different States of India. The objective of this programme is to train the aspirants to analyse large scale data using Python programming through hands-on training.

Certificate Distribution Ceremony

The University organized a ‘Certificate Distribution’ ceremony on 19^th June, 2022 at the University Convention hall.  On this occasion, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa distributed the degree certificates to one D.Lit. and 112 Ph.D. awardees. Further, 44,204 graduate students were also awarded their degrees. This notable step was taken at the greater interest of researchers and Students. The event was attended by Chairman, P.G. Council, Prof. P. K. Satapathy, Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia, and Comptroller of Finance Mr. Sukadev Tarei. The entire event was conducted by the Controller of Examinations Prof. Laxmidhar Giri. The event was attended by faculties, staff, parents and principals of constituent degree colleges. The event was followed by a meeting of the principals of affiliated colleges with the University authorities.

Field Trip Organised by Department of Geology

To provide hands-on experience in research, Department of Geology, MSCBU, 2^nd Campus, Keonjhar, arranged a two-day field trip of 1^st Year PG students to ‘Raisuan-Dhrupada-Ranki-Naranpur’ regions of Keonjhar during 12^th & 13^th April 2022 and field tour-cum-dissertation work of 2^nd Year PG students to Geological Survey of India, Raipur from 27^th May to 6^th June 2022.

Symposium Organised by Department of Santali

Department of Santali, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University in collaboration with Kendra Sahitya Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India organised a one day Symposium, titled “Movement of Santali Language, Script and Literature” on 21^st May 2022. The function was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa and Chaired by Padmashri Dr. Damayanti Beshra. Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. J. N. Besra, Head, Department of Sanatali. The Symposium consisted of two sessions, one each devoted exclusively on ‘YuvaSahitya’ and ‘NariChetana’. The symposium was attended by the faculty members and the students.

First Annual Maharaja Sriram Chandra BhanjaDeo Lecture

The First Annual Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo Lecture was delivered at the 200 seated Conference Hall of the University on May 20, 2022. This event was the part of the decision taken by the Syndicate of the University post naming the University after the revered Maharaja to organize an annual Lecture in the name of the Maharaja by a renowned person in various fields. This first annual lecture was delivered by Professor Jonathan Mark Kenoyer, Department of Anthropology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA who was the Chief guest. At the outset, Professor Kenoyer paid homage to Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo as a Renaissance man who paved the way for a modern Odisha. In his lecture titled "The Indus Civilization: New insights into its origin and legacy", Prof Kenoyer discussed the new lights of research on Indus Valley Civilisation. He made a point that people came to live in cities at Harappa not for climate change, but for economic benefit, shared ideology and security from bandits. The findings of the Seals implied the presence of landowner merchants, ritual specialists. More importantly the Unicorn motif in the seals implied the presence of some kind of bureaucracy. The pottery, figurines found in Harappan sites represent shared material culture. Evidence at Harappa suggests that the Antiquity of silk is older than that of China. On the basis of studies of the teeth of cattle, the diversity of food habits of the human population of Harppa was also reconstructed. Harappa had the diversity of population and diversity in cultural practices integrated through shared ideology and economic benefit. Professor Kenoyer argued for the presence of matrilocality culture at Harappa. Further he insisted upon learning from the good method of town planning from the Harappans. Vice Chancellor Professor Kishor K Basa presided over the meeting. Professor P. K. Satapathy, Chairman Post Graduate Council delivered the welcome address and introduced the Chief guest professor Kenoyer. Registrar Sri Sahadeb Samadhia proposed the vote of thanks.

Inauguration of Gymnasium for Ladies

 

The Gymnasium extension building, exclusively for Girls, in the main campus was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Kishor Kumar Basa, MSCB University on 6^th May 2022. Chairman PG Council, Registrar, Comptroller of Finance, Faculty members and Staff of the University were present on site.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Open Stadium

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, laid the foundation stone of University Outdoor Stadium on 6^th May 2022. Chairman P.G. Council, Registrar, Comptroller of Finance, Secretary Sports Council, PET, Teaching and non-teaching staff and Chairman-cum Managing Director of OPHWC, Bhubaneswar were present on that occasion. The proposed construction includes two double story building, Play ground with grassing beds, Turf Cricket Pitch, etc.
