FDP on 'Experimental Studies in Zoology under CBCS Curriculum' @MSCBU

A week-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled 'Experimental Studies in Zoology under CBCS Curriculum' was inaugurated at MSCB University on May 11, 2023. The event organized by the Department of Zoology under IDP-OHEPEE was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Professor Santosh Kumar Tripathy, who served as the Chief Guest, while Professor Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Chairman PG Council, presided over the inaugural function.

During his speech, Vice-Chancellor Professor Tripathy highlighted that many zoology laboratories across colleges have not been utilized due to lack of advanced training among teachers, and that several colleges lack laboratory infrastructure, which needs immediate attention. He also emphasized the need for a shift in attitude towards studying for the sake of acquiring knowledge rather than obtaining a certificate.

Professor Susmita Kar, Director of the College Development Council and a guest of honor, emphasized the importance of such programs in enhancing the intellectual development of teachers, likening it to the need for protein in the growth of children. Prof. Hrudaynath Thatoi, Co-ordinator of the Integrated Development Programme and Professor of Biotechnology Department, spoke about the success and effectiveness of the Integrated Development Programme in his speech.

Dr. Puspanjali Parida, Head of the Department of Zoology, welcomed the guests and provided an orientation of the programme. Dr. Gargi Mohanty, Assistant Professor of Zoology Department and Co-Coordinator of the Program, offered the vote of thanks. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tripathy also unveiled the training manual of the programme during the event.

Fifty professors and faculty from various colleges and universities of Odisha have participated in the programme.

National Workshop on "Lightning preparedness, Early warnings and its dissemination, Mitigation and research based community centric solutions" @MSCBU

 

Death due to lightning continues to increase day by day. The researchers are of the opinion that most of the lightning strikes are seen in the Mayurbhanj district in the whole of India. In this regard, under the North Odisha Tribal Lightning Resilience Programme - 2023, a National Workshop on "Lightning preparedness, Early warnings and its dissemination, Mitigation and research based community centric solutions" has been held at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 20th April, 2023. The workshop was organized jointly by Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Fakir Mohan University, Balasore and CROSPY, Ranchi. Vice Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy attended inaugurated the workshop as chief guest. In his address, he hoped that the programmes like this would eventually help in reducing the death rate due to lightning. Further he assured that such awareness programmes will be carried out in a planned manner with all the block-level colleges of Mayurbhanj. The meeting was presided by Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy. Registrar of the University Mr. Sahadev Samadhia gave a welcome speech. Professor Nihar Ranjan Rout, Head of Department of Geography of Fakir Mohan University, joined as an honorable speaker and informed that two thousand people die every year due to natural calamities and 70% of them are due to lightning. Similarly, the other speaker, Fakir Mohan University's Geography Department Professor Manoranjan Mishra said in his speech that while the number of deaths due to lightning strikes in Odisha is high, it's more in Mayurbhanj due to climate change. IN western countries like US, UK, the rate is very low due to the awareness among public. He asked to take preventive measures such as 'stay at home during thunderstorms', 'do not sit under trees', 'do not use mobile phones', 'stay away from iron structures', 'sit on wooden cots' etc.. In particular, mobile apps like Satark, Damini and Sachet can provide advance information about lightning. Similarly, the chairman of CROSPY, Ranchi, Colonel Sanjay Srivastav expressed the opinion that there is a great need for everyone being aware aware of the local problems. Lightning is also said to be a boon to God. By lightning, Nitrogen is easily incorporated into the soil and increases the fertility of the soil. He said that due to climate change, more lightning occurs in Mayurbhanj. Similarly, Delhi IMD Researcher Soma Singh Ray and Umashankar Das of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department gave their speech through online mode. Vice Chairman of Baripada Municipal Council Mrs. Seema Das, praised  this programme. Programme Coordinator of University NSS, Dr. Shubhendu Das made some suggestions for the promotion and dissemination of this programme. Mr. Shubhendu Satapathy, Assistant Professor at the University Social Work Department, delivered the vote of thanks at the end. Kanika Bose, State Coordinator of CROSPY, played a major role in the successful implementation of this programme. The workshop was attended by members of different Mission Shaktis of Mayurbhanj, NSS coordinators of various affiliated Colleges,  University faculty members, NSS volunteers and students.

Extramural Lecture @MSCBU

An extramural lecture was jointly organised by Department of Biotechnology and Research Club, MSCBU on 18.04.2023 in the 200 seated Annexure Hall of MSCB UNIVERSITY. Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Vice- Chancellor, MSCBU inaugurated the event. Prof. H. N. Thatoi, Head, Department of Biotechnology welcomed the Speaker, faculty and students of MSCBU. Dr Cuckoo Mahapatra, Teacher in charge, Research club, introduced the guests to the audience. Chairman P.G. Council, Prof. P.K. Sathpathy highlighted the importance of such lectures in developing the Innovation ecosystem in the University. Dr.P.K.Dasmohapatra,Associate Professor and Head Department of Microbiology and Director, Business Incubation and Innovation Centre, Raiganj University, West Bengal, spoke on the topic, "Role of Flourescent Pseudomonads and Strigolactone in sustainable agriculture  and scope of microbes in Biotechnological Industries".The students and faculty members of departments of Botany,Zoology, WLBC and Biotechnology attended the lecture.

Placement Drive at MSCBU

 

The Placement Cell at MSCB University organized a Campus Placement Drive in collaboration with Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company on April 13th, 2023. The placement drive was held in the Conference Hall of Academic Block-3, MSCB University, and was exclusively intended for MBA students. A total of 26 students from the MBA department participated in the drive.

The Officer in Charge of the Placement Cell, Dr. Kabita Kumari Sahu, gave a warm welcome address, introduced the guests, and encouraged the students to showcase their talents. Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Chairman of the PG Council, addressed the students and motivated them to accept job offers through the Placement Drive and strive for excellence.

The Deputy Manager of HR-Distribution, Mr. Ashish Kumar Panda, and the Area Manager, Mr. Manas Kumar Behera, from Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance shared their experience and discussed the company's performance.

Following group discussions and personal interviews, Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance selected 09 students for job placement. The company offered Asst. Relationship Manager-Bancassurance-BOI positions to Swatishree Panda and Rajashree Mohanta, while Aman Kumar Sahu, Padmini Acharya, Soumya Ranjan Tarenia, Amrita Mohanty, Shishir Kumar Gayen, Abinash Meher, and Deepak Kumar Giri were offered Insurance Trainee positions, with a CTC of 2,50,000.

The Campus Placement Drive was successful, with 30% of the participating students receiving job offers. The Head of the Business Administration Department, Dr. Sitaram Das, extended his support throughout the placement drive. The Officer-in-charge of the Placement Cell congratulated the selected students and delivered the formal vote of thanks to all participants and recruiting officers.

Seminar titled 'Role of Youth in Social Change in Tribal Areas'

 

Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University organized a seminar titled 'Role of Youth in Social Change in Tribal Areas' on 13th April, 2023. The seminar was jointly organized by the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies and UNICEF and was inaugurated by Professor Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Chairman of the PG Council.

Dr. Basanta Kumar Mohanta, the head of the Department of ATS, delivered the welcome speech. Prakash Kumar Barik, the coordinator of the Child Marriage Prevention Project, discussed the program's objectives. Sugaata Roy, the UNICEF Field Officer, discussed the role of youth studying Anthropology and Tribal Studies in social change and encouraged them to undertake research related to tribal issues and intern at UNICEF. B.N. Durga, the Senior Program Manager, provided information about the Fifth Article of the Constitution and discussed the role of youth. Dr. Aditya Patra, the Associate Professor of Economics, advised on the need for the youth to play a unique role in transforming society.

The Head of the Department of Economics, Dr. Minati Mallik, the Head of the Department of Social Work, Mr. Suvendu Kumar Satapathy, and Asst. Professor Sujay Kundu were present at the event. The coordination of the event was undertaken by Dr. Priyanka Das and Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar, Asst. Professors at the Department of ATS.

The seminar was attended by students of MBA, MSW, and Economics. Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu, an Asst. Professor at the Department of ATS, proposed the vote of thanks. At the end of the programme, the UNICEF team visited the cultural museum of the University.

Thanksgiving ceremony @MSCBU for securing 'A' grade from NAAC

 

Maintaining its excellence in the field of higher education, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University has secured 'A' grade in the third phase evaluation process of NAAC. The University secured 3.1 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) out of a total score of 4.0. A five-member team from NAAC had visited the University from March 27 to 29. The evaluation was based on criteria such as Curricular Aspects, Teaching-learning & Evaluation, Research, Innovations & Extension, Infrastructure & Learning Resources, Student Support & Progression, Governance, Leadership & Management, and Institutional Values & Best Practices.

To celebrate this achievement, a thanksgiving ceremony has been held on 12th April, 2023 in the University auditorium. Attending as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy congratulated and thanked the trinity of faculty members, non-teaching staff and students of the University. He expressed that, the university, which is located in a small town like Baripada, has set an example not only in Odisha but in the whole of India. He further hoped that keeping the trend of first 'B', then 'B+' and now 'A' grades, the university must get 'A+' or 'A++' grade in the coming days. Professor Tripathy called upon everyone to maintain excellence and be more productive in the coming days by thoroughly interpreting the NAAC peer team's report on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of the university. Finally, in the evening, a grand procession comprising all the faculty members, staff and students took off inside the University campus.

88th Utkal Divas Celebration @MSCBU

The 88th Utkal Divas was celebrated by the Literary and Cultural Council of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. On this occasion, a session titled "Sampratika Sthitire Odisha ( Current Situation of Odisha)" has been organized under the patronage of Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy. The meeting began with singing of "Bande Utkal Janni" by the University student in unison. In his presidential address, Prof. Satapathy welcomed everyone and spoked about how Odisha is leading the way in many aspects, there is still a lot of progress to be made in the fields of education, health and employment. The Principal of SCB degree college in Ragdha, Dr. Aseema Sahu, who was the Chief Speaker paid tribute to the distinguished individuals whose dedicated efforts towards building the independent Utkal State. She also gave a detailed account of many Odias who are making India proud nationally and internationally. She opined that more and more programmes about Utkal Divas should be carried out to create awareness among the next generation. Secretary of the Literary & Cultural Council, Dr. Bichitranath Sahu in his speech, gave the orientation of the meeting. Stressing on the self-pride of Odia, he said that if we can make good use of the resources available to us, the intentions of our great forefathers for this state can be achieved. He expressed the opinion that if it is accepted as a day of celebration instead of a holiday at the college and university level, it will create a sense of nationalism among the students. Associate Professor of the University's Department of Economics Dr. Aditya Kumar Patra in his speech, detailed about the current state of economic development in Odisha and also gave a picture of how Mission Shakti programme is  contributing to economic development. Finally, Associate Professor of Zoology Department and Vice President of Literature and Cultural Council Dr. Puspanjali Parida offered vote of thanks.

NAAC Peer Team visit to MSCBU - Round Up

A team of five members from NAAC visited Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada from 27th to 29th March 2023 to assess and accredit the academic and intellectual environment of the University. The team consisted of Dr. Arvind Kumar Dixit, former Vice Chancellor of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra, as Chairman; Dr. Rakesh Ramteke, Professor at KBC North Maharashtra University, Maharashtra, as Member Coordinator; Dr. Sanket Vij, Dean at Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidayalya, Haryana; Dr. Francis A. P. Arakal, Professor at Sri Shankaracharya University, Kerala; and Dr. Bharat Ramanuj, Professor at Saurastra University, Gujarat, as members.

The team arrived in the morning to the sound of a traditional drum beat performed by volunteers of the University's National Social Service Scheme and students of the Santali department. The members garlanded the statue of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo, followed by a discussion with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy. Prof. Tripathy gave the team a presentation about the University and its activities, and Coordinator-Internal Quality Assurance Prof. M. Himabindu presented details about the university with respect to the seven criteria of NAAC.

The members visited the P.G. Departments of the University and various facilities, including the "Sanskrutikee" - Cultural Museum, NSS Bureau, Computer Centre, Central Library, Similipal Study Centre, e-Resource Centre, Language Lab, Media Centre, Facilities for Divyangjans, Canteen, Day Care Centre, Dispensary, Yoga Centre, Zoology museum, Animal House, Central Instrumentation Facility, Gymnasium, Sports Council, Playground, Water bodies, University Hostels, Incubation Centre, various club-houses, Sacred Groove, Botanical Garden, Green house, Mist House, Medicinal Garden, Biotechnology Laboratories, Career Counseling Cell, Placement Cell, various other cells and facilities. Part of the delegation also visited the second campus of the University in Keonjhar. The team also reviewed the "Teach Mayurbhanj" programme being conducted by the School of Education.

The members also interacted with alumni, parents, students, and principals of affiliated colleges, and discussed the academic infrastructure of the University with Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia, Prof. Hemant Kumar Sahu of Department of Zoology, Director R&D Prof. Hrudaynath Thatoi, Director of College Development Council Prof. Susmita Kar, DSW Director Dr. Aditya Kumar Patra, Controller of Examinations Prof. Laxmidhar Giri, Controller of Finance Mr. Sukadev Tarei, Heads of various cells & committees, and other departmental officials.To honour the NAAC team, the students of the University showcased a cultural program at the University Auditorium. 

In the exit meeting, the NAAC peer team hailed the University's effort towards touching all the aspects of teaching & learning, research and infrastructure despite having a locational disadvantage. Members also suggested areas to improve upon. The University authorities are hopeful of improving their grade.

On day 2, the NAAC peer team members visited various facilities and centers such as "Sanskrutikee" - the Cultural Museum, NSS Bureau, Computer Center, Central Library, Similipal Study Center, e-Resource Center, Language Lab, Media Center, Facilities for Divyangjans, Canteen, Day-Care Center, Dispensary, Yoga Center, Zoology Museum, Animal House, Central Instrumentation Facility, Gymnasium, Sports Council, Playground, Water bodies, University Hostels, Incubation Center, various clubhouses, Career Counseling Cell, Placement Cell, and other cells and facilities. The team also visited various administrative sections such as Examinations, Finance, and Establishment, and interacted with non-teaching staff. Part of the delegation also visited the second campus of the University at Keonjhar and interacted with faculty and students.

MoU signed between University and CTRTI

A state-level workshop on the conservation of wild modal tasar species found in Odisha's Similipal biosphere reserve has been organized by Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University in collaboration with Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Ranchi (CTRTI) on 17th March, 2023. Dr. K. Sathyanarayana, Director of CTRTI who presided over the ceremony, emphasized the quality of high-quality tasar species like Modal and the need to conserve the tasar species in today's era when forest loss is a natural phenomenon. Mr. Suryanarayan Patnaik, Additional Director of Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department, Odisha on behalf of the Sericulture division, highlighted the modal conservation programme and its activities by the centres located around the Similipal biosphere reserve. He also discussed the need for conservation of the species of Jata and NaliaTasar. Baripada DFO Mr. Santosh Joshi attended as the Chief Guest and extended cooperation for conservation of modal tasar from the State Forest Department and promised to work together for conservation of modal and other species in the coming days. In this programme, the head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shamakhunta Dr. Sanghamitra Patnaik,  Senior Scientist of the Central Silk Board Dr. Manoj Patnaik, Dr. Prashant Kumar Kar, Dr. Karmaveer Jena, Dr. D.I.G. Prabhu presented key scientific findings and discussed the conservation and utilization of wild tasar, disposal of tasar waste and public participation. On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University and the CTRTI for research on various topics. Comptroller of Finance Mr. Sukadev Tarei represented the University for signing this MoU. The workshop was attended by Assistant Director of Sericulture Department, Baripada Dr. Sudhansubala Naik along with various central officials and more than 50 tasar farmers. The event was coordinated by Prof. Hemanta Kumar Sahu, Dr. Puspanjali Parida from Department of Zoology and Dr. Karmaveer Jena.

Vasant Utsav @MSCBU

 

Vasant Utsav was celebrated in the premises of Maharaja Shriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University with with full gaiety and colors. The programme was presided by Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy. Journalist Sanjay Chowdhury attended the event as Chief Speaker and Dr. Pushpa Patra, Principal of  Bangiriposi Laxmikant College joined as Guest of Honor. They spoke about the unique connection between love and nature, while giving a vivid description of spring. On this occasion, poetry recital was held by the students of the University which was coordinated by Mr. Snehasheesh Mohanty, final year student of Int. B.Ed. M.Ed. Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo from Department of Odia proposed the vote of thanks.

Training Programme on How Best to Ensure Gender Equality in Tribal Areas: Role of Youth

A three-day training programme on "How Best to Ensure Gender Equality in Tribal Areas: Role of Youth" has been organized at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University by the Department of Anthropology & Tribal Studies in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Youth Development Institute, Tamil Nadu from 13th to 15th March, 2023. The workshop was inaugurated by Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy, President's award winning environmentalist Chami Murmu and Head of Department of Anthropology and Tribal Education Dr. Basant Kumar Mohanta.

The first day of the training programme began by a formal introduction of the workshop by Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar, Asst. Professor of the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies. Environmentalist Chami Murmu, who was the Chief Guest, gave an example of her own movement and described how her NGO, "Sahyogi Mahila" works in the field of women empowerment. Retired Reader of Economics Dr. Tarun Kumar Ojha presented on the important role of womens equality in economics. Dr. Minati Mallick, HoD of Economics discussed about violence against women and its remedies.

In the second day of the training camp, Prof. Deepak Midda of Vidyasagar University explained the real causes of gender inequality and expressed his opinion that problems like gender inequality can be solved easily only if women are exposed to education, participate in the economy and represent the public. Anthropologist and former census officer Dr. Gautam Bera presented photographs of Gond and Gadaba tribal women collected from his research and donated his edited journal books to the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies. On this occasion, Dr. Gautam Bera shed light on the perspective of gender equality on the parallels of equality and partnership. Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu, Asst. Professor of the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies, highlighted the importance of environmental feminism and expressed the opinion that women are the best environmentalists, citing the example of the Chipko movement.

On the final day of the training camp, Lora Prabha, Associate Professor at Mayurbhanj Law College, explained about the role of women in Panchayatiraj, reservation, and implementation. RRDC-OSACS Project Director Mr. Pramod Kumar Das discussed the social status of transgenders and highlighted the steps being taken to integrate transgenders into the mainstream of the society. Prakash Kumar Barik, Coordinator of UNICEF's Anti-Child Marriage Project, explained that it is important to be aware of gender inequality at the family level. All those present on this occasion were made to recite the oath for gender equality. At the end, Prof. Basanti Rajendran, Programme Coordinator of Rajiv Gandhi National Youth Development Institute, was present online and expressed the purpose of the programme. Certificates were distributed to the participants. Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu offered the vote of thanks. The three-day long programme was coordinated by Associate Professor Dr. Monali Goswami, Asst. Professor Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar, Dr. Laxman Kumar Sahu, and  Dr. Priyanka Das.

Classical Odia Language Day Celebrations @MSCBU

 

On the occasion of 10th Classical Language Day, a state level conference was held at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on Saturday, 11th March, 2023. Chairman of the University PG Council and the President of the University Literary and Cultural Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy inaugurated the conference and spoke about the importance of celebrating the Classical Language Day. The Editor of the University Literature and Cultural Council Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo introduced the theme of the meeting, introduced the guests and highlighted the importance of the Odia language in his speech. In this seminar titled "Jati Gathana re Bhashara Bhumika (Role of Language in ethnicity structuring)", Dr. Ashutosh Prayas Dash, Asst. Professor and Head in the Department of Commerce of MPC Autonomous college participated as the keynote speaker and addressed on the identity of Odia caste and Odia language. He said that Odia language has reached the status of today after a lot of struggle among all the Indian languages. Prof. Susmita Kar, Professor of Physics Department of the University, joined the conference as the guest of honor and gave a speech about the role of today's youth in enriching Odia language and literature. Mr. Barada Prasanna Das, Retired Additional Director, Information and Public Relations Department, joined and narrated the events of the early attempts of to provide classical status to the Odia language. Mr. Bhagabata Panda, founder editor of Pratishruti Sahitya Anushthaan, spoke about how language and literature can elevate human life. On this occasion, poetry reading was done by the students. In the end, Vice President of the University Literary and Cultural Council, Associate Professor & Head of the Department of Zoology, Prof. Puspanjali Parida offered vote of thanks. The conference was attended by the faculty members and students of the University.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights @MSCBU

 

A workshop titled "Intellectual Property Rights, Its Commercialization and Technology Transfer" was held at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 10th March, 2023. The event was organized by the KIIT Technology Business Incubator and Patent Office, Kolkata in collaboration with the University Innovation Club and MPC Autonomous College on behalf of the Government of India's National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM). The workshop was inaugurated by Chairman PG Council, Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy, who in his speech called upon the researchers and students of the University to develop entrepreneurship mindset by creating patents, copyrights and designs. Head of University Innovation Club and Assistant Professor of Computer Application Department Dr. Prasanta Kumar Swain, delivering his welcome address, said that the students should identify new innovations from the daily routines of life. Mr. Dhiren Pattanaik, Patent Examiner in Kolkata Patent Office explained the various types of patents and their registration process in detail and answered various questions from the audience. Dr. Amaresh Panda, lead of KIIT Technology Business Incubator in his address opined that everyone from school to University should try for patent and further turning them into businesses thereby creating employment for self and others. Photo Exhibition by Photography Club & Nature Club of MSCBU

The Photography Club and Nature Club of the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University organized a photo exhibition in the Zoology Department on 4th March, 2023. In this exhibition, a photo gallery comprising of photographs taken by university students was showcased. In a meeting organized on this occasion, Chairman PG Council Professor Pramoda Kumar Satapathy presided over the meeting and addressed his speech on how various clubs of the university are helping in the development of academic and natural environment of the University. Head of University Photography Club and Associate Professor of Zoology Department Dr. Puspanjali Parida introduced the guests, expressed the theme of the meeting and  highlighted how photography creates identity and binds everyone in a thread of unity. Director, IQAC  Professor M. Himabindu described how mankind's relationship with the nature can be discovered in the photographs displayed in the exhibition. Dr. Minati Mallick, Associate Professor of Economics & member of Nature Club discussed how photography represents nature and how we can protect our nature and environment. Associate Professor of the Anthropology and tribal Studies Dr. Basant Kumar Mohanta in his speech opined that photography is not a luxury but it can be means of livelihood. Finally, the head of Nature Club and Assistant Professor of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Department Dr. Ashok Kumar Mallik proposed vote of thanks. The faculty members of the university and students from various departments participated in the programme and made it a success.

Science Day Celebrations @MSCBU

 

National Science Day has been organized by the Department of Physics at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University in the Physics seminar hall on 23rd March, 2023. Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy presided over the event and gave a speech on the historical significance of National Science Day. Professor Philip W. Kuchel of the School of Life and Environmental Sciences of the University of Sydney, Australia delivered his lecture on "Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of Living Systems: NMR Studies of Red Blood Cells". In this programme, the Head of the Physics department Dr. Indrajit Naik briefed about the purpose of the day and introduced the guests. Assistant Professor of Physics R. Jytiranjan Sahu proposed vote of thanks. Departmental Professor Sushmita Kar, Associate Professor Dr. Prabhanjan Mallik, Dr. Priyadarshini Sanghamitra Sahu, Laboratory Assistant Dr. Shikrishna Mohanta made a major contribution in organizing the event. On this occasion, the wall magazine of the Physics department 'Visheshika' was inaugurated by the Chairman, PG Council. Faculty members and students of various departments of the university participated in this programme.

Science Day-2023 was also organized by the Research Club of MSCB University, Baripada in the Convention Hall Annex. The program was inaugurated by the Chairman, P. G. Council, Prof. P. K. Satapathy. The meeting started with a Welcome address by Dr Cuckoo Mahapatra, Teacher-in-charge, Research Club, where she explained the theme of this year’s Science Day “Global Science for global well-being”. Miss Sneha Nayak, 3^rd Semester M.Sc. student of Yoga and Naturopathy was felicitated during the occasion for being awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh in the Make-in-Odisha Conclave for her Startup idea, “Healing through Mandala Art”. The highlight of the meeting was a deliberation by Dr Sujata Dash, Associate Professor, P. G. Dept of Computer Applications who spoke on “Big Data Analytics”.  She gave a lucid presentation on the applications of computer science in solving intricate problems in biology, chemistry and physics. Prizes were also awarded to the winners of Science Essay and Science Quiz competitions organized on the occasion of Science Day. The meeting was concluded by vote of thanks by Mrs. A. Sarada Achary, Member, Research Club and Research Scholar, P. G. Department of Zoology. 

5th Foundation Day Celebration of University Literary Council

A conference titled "Sampratika Sahityara Swara O Swakshara (Tone and Signature of Contemporary Literature) was held the 200-seated conference hall of the University by the University Literary and Cultural Council in collaboration with the University Literary Club on the occasion of 5th Foundation day of University Literary Council on 20th February, 2023. The conference was presided by Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy. Joining as the Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy pointed out the lack of reader interest in contemporary literature due to various reasons and opined that the experience expressed in the author's writing must be lively in order to gain readership. Guest of Honor Mr. Ramakanta Singh retired Principal of Betnoti College said that good literature maintains harmony between the beginning and the end, even if it passes through many obstacles. Chief Speaker of the occasion, Retired Reader of Department of Odia of MPC Autonomous college Dr. Abani Kumar Kundu spoke on the trends and nature of modern Odia literature. The Editor of the University Literature and Cultural Council, Head of the Odia Department, Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo gave the welcome address and explained the motivation behind the conference. The event was coordinated by Dr. Puspanjali Parida, HoD of Zoology Department and Vice President of the University Literary and Cultural Council. Finally, Teacher-in-Charge of University Literary Club Dr. Subhani Rath, Asst. Professor of Department of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation offered vote of thanks.

National Seminar on "Autobiography as Affecting Archaeology : Exploring Jayanta Mahapatra's Creative Oeuvre" @MSCBU

 

A two-day national conference on the writings of eminent poet Padmashri Professor Jayanta Mahapatra was held  in Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University from 12/02/23 to 13/02/23 in the University conference hall. The conference titled "Autobiography as Affective Archaeology: Exploring the Creative Oeuvre of Poet Jayanta Mahapatra" was jointly organized by the University and the Forum on Contemporary Theory, Vadodara. On the first day of the conference, Prof. Prafulla Chandra Kar, Director, Forum on Contemporary Theory  presided over and hailed Prof. Jayanta Mahapatra as a living legendary figure and enunciated the portrayal of  human appeal in the poetry of Jayanta Mahapatra., Chairman of the PG Council Professor Pramod Kumar Satapathy delivered the welcome speech and gave information about the purpose and approach of the conference. In the introductory speech, Professor Kalidas Mishra, Former Professor in English, Sambalpur University and the convenor of the seminar showed how vividly the picture of trees, rivers, ponds, village life is reflected in the poetry of poet Jayanta Mahapatra.

On this occasion, Poet Jayanta Mahapatra was felicitated by the university. In his address, Poet -Jayant Mahapatra spoke about how poetry has shaped his life and reflected his lifelong struggles. The answer to poetry is not a one day job but a life-long practice and a good poem takes the poet from one level of life to a higher level. He never wanted to be a poet himself but he became a poet in the course of destiny; and today it is ‘poetry’ which is helping him living his life, he said. Calicut University Professor P.P. Ravindran in his keynote speech, considered poet Jayanta Mahapatra as the greatest poet of his time and a living monument and said that poet Jayanta Mahapatra's poetry is a combination of honesty and sincerity. 

In this programme, the book "Being Us" written by Dr. Shaktisankar Dandpat of English Department of the University was launched by the guests. At the end of the inaugural program, poet Dr. Rabindra Kumar Swain offered vote of thanks. The program was attended by all the faculty members of the university and the students of various language departments, internationally acclaimed artist Birendra Pani and the literature-loving scholars and intellectuals of Mayurbhanj and the state. In the evening of the first day program, the guests were entertained with Santali dance, Sambalpuri dance, songs and music. 

In various sessions on both the days, Professor P. Ravindran, Kailash Baral, Kamdev Sahu, Rajashree Biswal, Chittaranjan Mishra, Namita Jagdev, Raja Rao, Bhagwan Tripathi, Balabhadra Tripathi, Rachita Swain and other researchers addressed various aspects such as place, history, memory, Identity, human suffering due to class and gender differences, existential crisis and human suffering and cosmic experience in the poems of Jayanta Mahapatra. In the evening, there was a poetry reading session by Professor Jayant Mohapatra, Kalidas Mishra, Pritidhara Samal, Rabindra Swain, Namita Jagdev, Ajit Kumar Kullu and others and students of the university.

One of the most important and interesting parts of the seminar was the art exhibition titled 'Re-Vision Relationship', presented by New Bridge India in association with Forum of Contemporary Theory, Vadodara, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada and Sarat Chandra Library, Baripada. It was an interesting ‘visual-literary engagement’ in which internationally recognized Art historian, curator and cultural thinker Dr. Rajashree Biswal conceptualized and curated the exhibition based on Birendra Pani’s traveling art exhibition Re-Vision (New York, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata 2009-2011) and poet Jayanta Mahapatra's seminal poem Relationship (New York, 1980 and India in 1982).   Marking the striking similarities in these two cultural texts as well as interweaving them through ‘intertextuality’, this exhibition ‘Re-Vision Relationship’ was a new cultural text urging the viewers to relook, re-engage and reconsider with Odisha's land, landscape, history, memory, culture and heritage, and identity in today's globalization era. With the strategy of ‘reproduction aesthetics’ i.e. through the ‘reproduction’ of the images of the paintings as well as the text of the poem in this exhibition, it reached out to a different viewers/audience for a new cultural and aesthetic sensibility. 

In the valedictory session, certificates were distributed to the participants by Prof. Jayant Mahapatra, Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy and Prof. Kalidas Mishra. Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy announced all these events as a part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the University and expressed for more and more collaboration with Forum of Contemporary Theory in future.

World Acupressure Reflexology Day (WARD) Celebration @MSCBU

 

World Acupressure Reflexology Day (WARD) was celebrated at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 1^st February, 2023 to mark the birthday of Acupressure Shiromani Dr. Lalchand Bagaria which is celebrated as WARD. A workshop and hands-on training session on “ACUPRESSURE AWARENESS PROGRAMME” was arranged in the 200 seated conference hall by Yoga Club of MSCBU in collaboration with Odisha Swasthya Seva Sangha (OSSS), Cuttack. Resource person Mr. Akash Moharana made a lucid presentation and his charismatic personality aided to his skill for a effective hands- on training. Students and faculties from various departments were presented for the training. P.G. Council Chairman Prof. P.K. Satpathy and Yoga Club co-ordinator Dr. Santosh Ku Sahu graced the occasion and extended their support and guidance to organize the event. This workshop was immensely helpful to spread awareness regarding Acupressure as an alternative medicine technique and it also revealed the usefulness of Acupressure and Reflexology in evaluating, preventing and curing many acute and chronic non-communicable and communicable diseases like migraine, sinusitis, insomnia, heart diseases, hypertension, neurological conditions, diabetes, etc. Last but not the least, the awareness programme was a grand success and fulfilled its purpose. MSCBU is planning to carry out certified course in Acupressure and Reflexology for both students and teaching & non-teaching faculties in near future.

Inauguration of e-Resource Centre and Launch of LMS

An e-resource centre for students and researchers has been inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy in the Central Library premises of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University 24th January, 2023. This e-resource center has 20 computers with servers. Apart from this, a Learning Management System (LMS), hosted in the e-resource centre was also launched the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. The LMS is designed and developed in-house by Dr. Swarupananda Bissoyi, Assistant Professor in Department of Computer Application. Using this LMS, faculty members can upload various course materials for students. The e-Resource Centre and LMS can be used to access e-resources on various subjects, including the ones provided by Department of Higher Education, Government of Odisha. In the LMS, varieties of learning resources are available online in different languages such as Odia, Santali, Sanskrit and Hindi. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tripathy advised the students and researchers to make optimum use of the resources and stressed that this LMS will be helpful for the upcoming NAAC evaluation. Road Safety Awareness Rally @MSCBU

 

On the occasion of the National Road Safety Week a procession was conducted by the University National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers and students on 20th January, 2023. The students tried to create public awareness by holding banners and placards. Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy inaugurated it while University NSS coordinator Assistant Professor Dr. Bishnupriya Hansda coordinated the whole event. Faculty members like Prof. M Himbindu, Prof. Sushmita Kar, Dr. Minati Mallik and Dr. Pratap Kumar Jena paticipated in the event and encouraged the students.

National Youth Day Celebration and Workshop on Photography

 

Celebration of National Youth Day and a Workshop on Photography was held in Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University on 12th January, 2023. In the morning, an awareness rally was organized around the city by the University National Service (NSS) volunteers and students of Yoga & Naturopathy Department. In the afternoon a session on National Youth Day along with a Workshop on Photography was jointly organized by University NSS division and the Photography Club and the speakers deliberated upon the nationalistic ideas of Swami Vivekananda. In this meeting held under the chairmanship of Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapaty, Vice Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy joined as Chief Guest and in his address, inspired the students to follow Swami Vivekananda's ideals by giving examples from his own life. University NSS Coordinator Assistant Professor Dr. Bishnupriya Hansda and Assistant Professor of Social Work Department Mr. Shubhendu Satapathy spoke about the abilities and various activities of the NSS. Teacher-in-Charge, Photography Club Associate Professor Dr. Puspanjali Parida gave an introduction and genesis of the Photography Club. Researcher from Department of Journalism of Nagarjuna University Mr. Tunga Yogesh Babu gave an interesting lecture on photography through online mode. Assistant Professor of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Department Dr. Ashok Kumar Mallik explained about photography styles while Dr. Basant Kumar Mohanta, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Triabl Studies  gave his talk on cultural photography. Student of Physics department Mr. Swapeswar Bissoyi explained about video editing. The workshop was attended by all the faculty members and students of the university.

Student Induction Programme @MSCBU

Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University welcomed the new students enrolled in the academic year 2022-23 through an Induction Programme on the occasion of National Youth Day and Vivekananda Jayanti on 12th January, 2022. In a grand welcome ceremony organized in the University conference hall, Vice Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy welcomed the students and hailed the University as a man-made factory in his speech. A student comes to the University to study and try to build himself/herself to face the challenges of the society. He said that education makes a difference, knowledge gained is applied in real life and achieve excellence in life. Chairman PG Council Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy gave an account of the academic ambience of the university and informed the students about the university's infrastructure, library and various sports and cultural programmes held throughout the academic year. Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia, discussed how the students should learn by idealizing morality. IQAC Director Prof. M. Himabindu discussed the University's preparations for the upcoming NAAC assessment. Prof. Susmita Kar, Warden of all the hostels discussed thoroughly about the facilities available to the students in the hostels. On behalf of the Central Library, Prof. Hemanta Kumar Sahu discussed about the Library's book collection and the environment of library. Controller of Examinations, Prof. Laxmidhar Giri gave a speech regarding the schedule and procedure of all the examinations conducted in an academic year. University R&D Cell Head Prof. Hrudaynath Thatoi pointed out the difference between a College and a University and represented the University as a field of research. The induction programme was attended by all the faculty members of the University.
