Symposium Organised by Department of Santali

Department of Santali, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University in collaboration with Kendra Sahitya Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India organised a one day Symposium, titled “Movement of Santali Language, Script and Literature” on 21^st May 2022. The function was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa and Chaired by Padmashri Dr. Damayanti Beshra. Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. J. N. Besra, Head, Department of Sanatali. The Symposium consisted of two sessions, one each devoted exclusively on ‘YuvaSahitya’ and ‘NariChetana’. The symposium was attended by the faculty members and the students.

First Annual Maharaja Sriram Chandra BhanjaDeo Lecture

The First Annual Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo Lecture was delivered at the 200 seated Conference Hall of the University on May 20, 2022. This event was the part of the decision taken by the Syndicate of the University post naming the University after the revered Maharaja to organize an annual Lecture in the name of the Maharaja by a renowned person in various fields. This first annual lecture was delivered by Professor Jonathan Mark Kenoyer, Department of Anthropology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA who was the Chief guest. At the outset, Professor Kenoyer paid homage to Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo as a Renaissance man who paved the way for a modern Odisha. In his lecture titled "The Indus Civilization: New insights into its origin and legacy", Prof Kenoyer discussed the new lights of research on Indus Valley Civilisation. He made a point that people came to live in cities at Harappa not for climate change, but for economic benefit, shared ideology and security from bandits. The findings of the Seals implied the presence of landowner merchants, ritual specialists. More importantly the Unicorn motif in the seals implied the presence of some kind of bureaucracy. The pottery, figurines found in Harappan sites represent shared material culture. Evidence at Harappa suggests that the Antiquity of silk is older than that of China. On the basis of studies of the teeth of cattle, the diversity of food habits of the human population of Harppa was also reconstructed. Harappa had the diversity of population and diversity in cultural practices integrated through shared ideology and economic benefit. Professor Kenoyer argued for the presence of matrilocality culture at Harappa. Further he insisted upon learning from the good method of town planning from the Harappans. Vice Chancellor Professor Kishor K Basa presided over the meeting. Professor P. K. Satapathy, Chairman Post Graduate Council delivered the welcome address and introduced the Chief guest professor Kenoyer. Registrar Sri Sahadeb Samadhia proposed the vote of thanks.

Inauguration of Gymnasium for Ladies

 

The Gymnasium extension building, exclusively for Girls, in the main campus was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Kishor Kumar Basa, MSCB University on 6^th May 2022. Chairman PG Council, Registrar, Comptroller of Finance, Faculty members and Staff of the University were present on site.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Open Stadium

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, laid the foundation stone of University Outdoor Stadium on 6^th May 2022. Chairman P.G. Council, Registrar, Comptroller of Finance, Secretary Sports Council, PET, Teaching and non-teaching staff and Chairman-cum Managing Director of OPHWC, Bhubaneswar were present on that occasion. The proposed construction includes two double story building, Play ground with grassing beds, Turf Cricket Pitch, etc.

Seminar on Excellence in Education

 

A Seminar on ‘Excellence in Education’ was organized under the aegis of IQAC cell of the University, on April 27, 2022. Chairman PG Council Prof. P.K.Satapathy introduced the guests and BK Umarani delivered the theme address. Rajayogi B.K.Ramnathji from Mount Abu delivered the keynote address on education, stressing the importance of meditation and societal focus in students to excel in their careers. Rajayogi B.K.Nathmalji spoke on value education and the role of youth in shaping the society. Finally, a formal vote of thanks was given by Prof. M. Himabindu, Director, IQAC.

Celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo

A state level seminar to celebrate the 150th Birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo was organized by Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University on 26th April, 2022 in association with Mayurbhanj District Aurobindo Study Circle. The theme of the seminar was "Relevance of Sri Aurobindo in a Troubled World". Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa was the Chief Guest of the event. In his address Prof. Basa hailed Sri Aurobindo as a great Yogi for ultimate Hope and a revolutionary conceiver of spiritual consciousness. Dr. Saroj Kanta Mishra, retired Dy. Director of Agriculture, Govt. of Odisha in his online address opined that mankind shall not be destroyed despite all the odds that world is facing today and Sri Aurobindo's teachings will help one to attain self-consciousness. Prof. Pramoda Kumar Satapathy expressed hope that Aurobindo's philosophy can guide mankind in this troubled world. Among the other speakers Sri Bhagirathi Mahapatra, Zonal coordinator, Sri Aurobindo Study Circle Committee, Educationist Mr. Kalpataru Patra and Mr. Prabhat Nayak discussed the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo. Sri Prabodh Kumar Mahapatra, Managing Trustee, Mayurbhanj Sri Aurobindo Study Circle Trust presided over the meeting while Dr. Bichitranath Sahoo, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Odia offered the vote of thanks.

International Seminar Organised by Department of Physics

 

Department of Physics, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University has organised an International Seminar on “Emerging Trends in Physics” in blended mode on 23^rdApril 2022. Prof. K. K. Basa, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor inaugurated the event as Chief Guest and the session was presided by Prof. P. K. Satapathy, Chairman, P.G. Council. In this seminar, Dr. Debakanta Samal, Associate Professor-G, IOP, Bhubaneswar and Dr. Mrutunjaya Bhuyan, faculty at Center for Theoretical & Computational Physics, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were delivered their talks as resource persons. All the faculty members and students actively participated in the seminar discussion.

Celebration of 87th Utkal Divas

P.G. Department of Odia organized a seminar on ‘Yuge Yuge Swabhimani Odia’ on the eve of 87^thUtkal Divas on 01^st April 2022. The Seminar was on the journey of Odisha to recall the sacrifice and honour of great leaders for the formation of the Odisha state. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa, inaugurated this event as Chief guest and on his inaugural address, reiterated few glorious moments that went into gaining a separate identity for the state that was once a part of Kalinga ruled by Ashok and Kharavela. Chief Speaker Prof Rajendra Samal discussed the importance of mother tongue and motherland. Various other speakers like Dr Narayan Behera (MPC Auto. College, Baripada), Dr P.Parida (Dept. of Zoology, MSCBU), Dr S.K.Satapathy (Dept. of Social Work, MSCBU) have shared their thought on formation of separate Odisha state. In the present context Odisha needs to showcase its rich history to the world community. The function was attended by faculty members, students and staffs.

‘H.K.Sahoo Seminar’ Series organised by Department of Geology

The First ‘H.K.Sahoo Seminar’ Series was held on 31^st March 2022 under the aegis of Department of Geology, MSCBU, 2^nd Campus, Keonjhar. Prof. Manoranjan Mishra, Rajendra University, and Prof. Sreerup Goswami, Utkal University, delivered their talk on the occasion in virtual mode.

National Seminar jointly oraganised by Department of Zoology & ZSO

 

A Two days National Seminar on ‘Research for Protection of Animals’ was organized by Department of Zoology in collaboration with Zoological Society of Orissa on 29^th & 30^th March 2022. Chief guest Padma Shri Prof. Aditya Prasad Dash, Vice Chancellor, AIPH, Bhubaneswar inaugurated this event and emphasised in his deliberations on the role of rare species, their existence and improvement on elimination of seven major infectious diseases. Prof. S.K.Dutta, President, ZSO has focused on the role and function of Zoological society and its impact on welfare of mankind. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, MSCB University, Prof. K.K.Basa has expressed his concern on the protection of rare species in Similipal and the impact of climate change on biodiversity. Prof. H.K.Sahu was the Convener of this event. At the outset Dr G.Sahu, Secretary, ZSO, highlighted the detailed fixture of the programme. Dr Puspanjali Parida, Dr Cuckoo Mohapatra, Dr. P.R.Debta and Dr G.Mohanty have coordinated the function. Students and staff were present and actively participated in this two day programme.

DAE-BRNS Outreach Theme Meeting

An Outreach Theme Meeting on “Societal Applications of Nuclear Science and Technology” organised by the Department of Atomic Energy – Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (GoI) was held at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University, Baripada on 25-27th March 2022. A delegation of 26 eminent nuclear scientists led by Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre along with Dr. Asoka Kumar Das, Vice Chairman, Odisha State Higher Education Council attended this outreach meeting.

As a historic occasion for the state, this is for the first time in Odisha that a high profile delegation from the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) led by Dr. Ajit K. Mohanty, Director, BARC including scientists from BARC, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Institute of Physics and NISER visited the University.

As part of commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, this event was was jointly organized by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences , Institute of Physics (IOP), National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), and Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University in association with Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists & Allied Scientists (IANCAS).

The inaugural ceremony started with paying homage to Prof. Srikumar Banerjee, Former Chairman, Department of Atomic Energy who was the conceiver of this programme. Chief guest of the event Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty in his address, recalled the history and glory of his birthplace Mayurbhanj and his educational life in Mayurbhanj. He expressed that research should not done for the sake of research rather it should reach the real life of the masses. He remembered Prof. Jogesh Pati who is a son of the soil of Baripada and highlighted his contribution to nuclear physics. He also envisioned the popularisation of Mayurbhanj chhau dance in the country and informed that soon Mayurbhanj Chhau will be performed in Anushakti Nagar, the residential township of BARC in Mumbai.

In the welcoming address, Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University described the event as a historic occasion for the state which will provide an excellent platform for the scientists, academicians and research scholars to exchange their knowledge on recent applications of Nuclear Science & Technology in different disciplines. Such programmes will for sure create an environment for research towards upliftment of the tribals of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar district. He opined that this type of outreach program will help in raising the aspiration of tribal youths through science. The students, research scholars and younger faculty members will be benefited by establishing collaboration between DAE sponsored national institutes both in research and internships.

Dr. Asoka Kumar Das, Vice Chairman, Odisha State Higher Education Council in his address, expressed that the Make in India initiatives has a tremendous opportunities for sustainable development. The program will be very much important to spread the technology developed in the lab to the people of Odisha. He also emphasized that Government of Odisha is taking keen interest in developing research ecosystem across the state and the Higher Education Council is functioning as an umbrella organization by implementing various teaching and research initiatives.

The University felicitated Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty for for being conferred on ‘Bhumiputra Sanmana’. On behalf of BARC Dr. Mohanty donated a GM counter to the University for the benefit of students.. On behalf of the University, all the dignitaries present on the stage were felicitated with the mementos. Vice Chancellor Prof. Basa felicitated Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty's mother Smt Ratnamani Mohanty with Uttariya. Former Health Minister  of Jharkhand, Dr Dinesh Sadangi honored Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty with Uttariya and urged upon the  scientists to address health issues in the Jaduguda region due to uranium mining.

This two day event witnessed an exhibition of 38 outreach Posters and BARC Technologies which was inaugurated by the chief guest and other distinguished guests. Dr. Ajit Mohanty and other distinguished scientists interacted with the farmers of Mayurbhanj and explained the practical aspects of nuclear technology in agriculture. The delegation also interacted with the print and electronic media about various societal applications using the technologies of BARC. Scientists from BARC shown the demo of various BARC technologies such as AKRUTI – Spin-off Technologies, Nuclear Agriculture & Biotechnology and Food Technologies.  Experiments with Nuclear Physics instruments such as GM Counter and E2: NaI(Tl) Detector were demonstrated to the participants. The delegation also visited various departments of the university and exchanged views with faculty members and research scholars.  The event was attended by the research scholars, students, faculty members, agriculture officials of Mayurbhanj district, farmers and local entrepreneurs.

National Webinar on ‘Passages through India’ organised by Department of English, 2nd Campus

 

A national webinar on the theme of colonialism and travel was organised by the department of English, MSCBU, Keonjhar Campus on 17 March 2022. Titled, Passages through India, the online seminar featured three scholars who spoke on the significance of travel in the context of colonialism.

First Odisha Inter-University Competition - Games & Sports- 2022

In a landmark achievement to its credit, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjdeo University hosted the first Odisha Inter-University Competitions (Games & Sports) with the sponsorship of the Department of Higher Education. The event which was held from 11 to 14 March will feature 14 games: cricket, football, badminton, carom, chess, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, and kabaddi. The inaugural ceremony of the competition was held at Baripada Stadium on 11-03-2022 Friday. The game was inaugurated by Shri Shaswat Mishra, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, and Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University. Mr. Vineet Bharadwaj, Collector, Mayurbhanj was the Guest of Honor. Nearly 1250 participants from  15 universities namely Central University of Odisha, Utkal University, Sambalpur University, Berhampur University, Ravenshaw University, Ramadevi Women’s University, Gangadhar Meher University, Kalahandi University, Rajendra University, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Siksha  ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University, Centurion University, Shri Jagannath Sanskrit University, Fakir Mohan University and Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University along with 100 managers and 100 match officials. In the inaugural address, Mr. Shaswat Mishra said that for the first time, these games were planned for enriching extracurricular activities among students thereby encouraging and motivating them in a post-Covid environment. With the participation of both private and public Universities, such games will help students in communicating with students of other Universities and raise their competitiveness. Vice Chancellor Professor Basa thanked the state government for providing the opportunity to host such a mega sports event in a remote district like Mayurbhanj and thanked all the sports institutions of Mayurbhanj, the district administration for extending their help. Collector, Mr. Vineet Bharadwaj called the holding of such a sports event in Mayurbhanj a matter of pride and glory. Registrar Sahadev Samadhia offered the vote of thanks. Chairman, PG Council Prof. Pramod Kumar Satapathy, Prof. Anil K Biswal, Comptroller of finance Mr. Sukdev Tarei Sports Council Secretary Dr. Indrajith Nayak coordinated the inaugural ceremony. The torch procession started off from Ambika Mandir, the presiding deity of Baripada, and marched around the city to reach Baripada Stadium. The students of NSS welcomed the contestants with dance and music. The parade was led by the district police band. State anthem "Bande Utkal Janani '' was played followed by swearing-in of the contestants. Vice Chancellor Prof. Basa hoisted the University flag and Principal Secretary Shri Shaswat Mishra hoisted the game flag.

In the closing ceremony of the games, the parade of the players was headed by the police band. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor K. Basa put out the game torch and lowered the games flag to  declare the games closed. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor kumar Basa, Chairman PG Council Prof. P. K. Satapathy, General Secretary of Mayurbhanj Athletic Association Shri Bijay Kumar Das, Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia, Secretary Sports Council Dr. Indrajit Naik were the dignitaries present in the dias. Later, a prize distribution ceremony was held in the Auditorium open arena of University campus. Prof. Basa in his address, thanked the entire University staff, students, all the players, match officials, Principals of all the affiliated colleges, Principal & Staff of Baripada College, Principal & staff of Loyla public school, members of Shankhabhanga Panchayat, members Mayubhanj Athletic Association, members of Mayurbhanj Athletic Association, members of Station Bazar Athletic Association and other sports institutions of Baripada, the members of print and elec the public of Mayurbhanj for their whole hearted support in making this event a grand success. He also thanked Mr. Vineet Bharadwaj, Collector, Mayurbhanj, Shri Abani Mohanty, Mayurbhanj District Sports Officer,  Mayurbhanj District Information Public Relation Officer Shri Rabindra Kumar Nayak for their support in organizing this event.

The cultural programmes organized in the University auditorium on the sidelines of the event were a great crowd puller. The popular events were Santali folk-dance by Dr. Jateendra Nath Besra & team, Shiba Tandaba Nrutya and group Chhau dance performed by the artists of Uttar Sahi Chhau Pratishthan of Baripada,  Jhumar performed by the artists of Maa Dwarashuni Jhumar Anushthan of Rairangpur, dance performance by Ollywood actress and student of MSCB University Ms. Manisha Dhar, Melodious song performance by Sri Pradeep Kumar Dwibedi and Mr. Prem kumar of of MSCB University. The cultural programme was coordinated by Sri Umesh Sahu, Sri Somanath Singh and Sri Jayant Kumar Tripathy.

All the faculty, staff, and students of the University, sports fans from Mayurbhanj joined the event to cheer the participants and created a festive atmosphere.

National Seminar on the "Importance of Japanese Language in India"

 

The P.G. Department of English and Odia of MSCBU jointly organised a National Seminar on the "Importance of Japanese Language in India" on 13.03.2022. The event was inaugurated by Prof. P.K.Satapathy, Chairman, P.G. Council, put forward his introductory remark and introduced the guests. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. N.K.Panda, highlighting the scope of the topic and its relevance to the benefits of Indians. Prof. K.C.Satapathy and Prof. P.K.Patra from Utkal University shared their views on the topic. On this occasion two books (Out of Nothingness and Achintya) written by Dr. S.S.Dandapat, Department of English, MSCBU, were released. The National Seminar begins with a welcome note by Dr. B.Sahoo and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. S.S.Dandapat. The programme was attended by students and staff.

National Seminar Organised by Department of Odia, MSCBU,2nd Campus, Keonjhar

A national seminar on the topic “Myth ra Nabikaran O Sampratika Odia Sahitya” was organised by the department in physical mode on 11^th March 2022.. Prof. B.K.Satapathy (Utkal University) and Prof. B.C.Samal (Visva Bharati University) graced the occasion as speakers. On this occasion Prof. Samal, emphasised the need to understand the idea behind ‘Myth’ to appreciate it better. Prof. Satapathy, remarked that ‘Myth’ act as bridge between the past and the present. The event was presided by Prof. B.B.Mahapatra, Head, Department of Odia. Dr Sisira Behera proposed the formal vote of thanks.

Workshop-Cum-Training Programme for Tribal Youth

 

A three-day training programme on “Making Tribal Youth self-reliant: Skill Development training to graduating tribal youth of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University” was organized by the Department of Anthropology and Tribal studies, MSCB University in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Chennai from 07^th to 9^th March 2022. In the inaugural session Prof. K.K.Basa, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Prof. P.K.Satpathay, Chairman. P.G Council graced the occasion as Chef Guest and Guest of Honour. During the workshop Resource persons spoke largely on the role of youth in nation building, in local resource management and mobilization of community resources, mapping of resources, career enhancement, life skill development, entrepreneurship development and livelihood promotion of tribal youths through arts and crafts. The basic objective of the programme was to train students about the entrepreneurship so that after graduation they can generate their income and enhance their livelihood options.

Celebration of International Women’s Day

 

International Women’s Day 2022 was celebrated by ‘Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell’ of MSCB University. Prof. P.K.Satapathy, Chairman P. G. Council, chaired the session and Prof. Himabindu M., focused on the theme ‘Break The Bias’ with a welcome note. Prof. P.K.Satapathy highlighted the socio-economic-cultural-political achievements of women and emphasised on the action for gender parity. Prof. Susmita Kar, discussed on the contribution of women in the socio-political sphere as well as in global peace & security and stressed to equip them with self-defence technique. Dr. B.Hansdah proposed a formal vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, participants and members present.

Observation of ‘International Mother Tongue Day’

 

‘International Mother Tongue Day’ was commemorated at MSCBU, 2^nd Campus, Keonjhar on 21^st February 2022. Prof. B.Mohapatra, Head, Department of Odia, addressed the gathering on the topic ‘Role of Technology in Dissemination of Education in the Vernaculars’. He emphasized on the need for better understanding and admiration of mother tongue among students. On this occasion students and staff actively participated.

National Seminar Organised by Department of Library and Information Science

A One-day National Seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Library and Information Science’ was organized by the Department of Library and Information Science on 13^th January 2022 in blended mode. Seminar was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa. Prof. Basa emphasised the need of library and information science in the present context. Prof. A.K.Biswal, Chairman, PG Council presided the meeting. Prof. Bulu Moharana (Sambalpur University), Prof. R.K.Mohapatra (Tripura University), Dr. R.K.Das (IIT, Mumbai) and Dr. Rashmita Mohanty (Tolani College Mumbai) delivered their lectures on various aspects on the recent developments of ‘Library and Information Science’. Dr. S.K.Sahu proposed vote of thanks. Dr. N.K.Sahu, Ms. S.Nayak and Dr S.S.Basa coordinated the programme.

Observation of ‘National Youth Day’

The NSS P.G. Unit of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University observed the ‘National Youth Day’ on 12^th January, 2022. On this occasion the chief speaker Dr. G.Pani delivered a lecture on ‘Swami Vivekananda - A Young Ideal’. Later, the Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K. Basa has encouraged the youths by delivering a speech on ‘Role of Youth in Society’s Progress’. The meeting was attended by students, faculties and staff members of the University.

Winter Clothes Donation Drive

 

NSS PG Unit of University initiated ‘Winter Clothes Donation Drive’ in the month of January, 2022. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. K.K.Basa, inaugurated the event. The drive continued till Makar Sankranti with donations collected from staff and students of the University which was later distributed to rural inhabitants around Mayurbhanj district. Awareness against Witchcraft

 

Since old days, ‘Witch’ lynching continues to be as one of the biggest social menace in rural areas of Odisha especially in Mayurbhanj district. Our NSS volunteers and other affiliated colleges organised a motor rally on 24^th December 2021 to aware the tribal and other rural area people on Witch. District collector Shri Vineet Bhardwaj (IAS) has flagged off the vehicle in presence of Shri Rishikesh D Khilari, Superintendent of Police, Shri S.Samadhia, Registrar, Comptroller of Finance Shri S.Tarei, Dr.S.K.Satpathy (Dept.of MSW), Dr.S.R.Das (Dept. of MBA) and others. The main aim of this programme is to educate the tribal people that how these blind beliefs are harming the social fabric, with a special focus on tribal communities especially Santhal and Kohla, who strongly believe on witchcraft. The NSS volunteers distributed leaflets and performed street play on witchcraft and superstition on various problems of real life.

National Seminar on ‘Similipal: Communities, Biodiversity and Conservation’

 

A Two days National Seminar on ‘Similipal: Communities, Biodiversity and Conservation’ was organized by ‘Similipal Study Centre’ of the University funded by IDP-OHEPEE, Government of Odisha, on 20^th & 21^st December 2021. This event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa. On this occasion he put forth his view on the Conservation and Protection of Similipal by the mutual collaboration of Government, local people, NGOs and Educational Institutions. Chief Guest Dr. Debabrata Swain (Lokayukta) has discussed on the historical perspective, geographical spectrum and present climatic conditions of Similipal. Further, he emphasized on the protection of tigers and other rare animal as well as plant species of Similipal. Invited Speaker Shri M Yogajayanand (Regional Chief Conservator of Forest) has briefed on the responsibility of forest guards and other forest divisional people to restore Similipal. Speaking on the occasion Prof. S.K.Dutta (Retired Professor of Zoology, MSCBU) has highlighted the diversity, peculiarity and significance of herpetofauna found in Similipal. Prof. A.K.Biswal, Chairman P.G. Council pointed out the diversity of floral distribution in Similipal and compared with the flora of Himalayas. The Convenor of the event, Prof. H.N.Thatoi delivered the inaugural address with a brief idea on the thrust of research on conservation of plants and animals within Similipal. The co-convenor Dr. C.Mohapatra extended vote of thanks. The Forest Department, Govt. of Odisha arranged an exhibition for different forest products during these two days seminar. Faculty members, students and forest personnel attended the seminar.

Awareness Campaign on Controlling Similipal Fire

 

The Similipal biosphere reserve was ravaged by devastating forest fires during 2021. The fire had a severe impact on the lives of plants, animals and the biodiversity of the area. Starting from December 2021 to January 2022, a continuous awareness campaign was organized by the Department of Social Work under the guidance of Dr S.K.Satpathy. In the presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof K.K.Basa, District collector ShriVineet Bhardwaj (IAS), Superintendent of Police Shri Rishikesh D Khilari, Shri S.Samadhia, Registrar, Comptroller of Finance Shri S.Tarei, the students cum NSS volunteers has rolled the awareness vehicle to many degree colleges and village areas of Mayurbhanj district to make them aware of the menace of forest fires, helps them to understand the magnitude of the problem and the role they can play in reducing it.

‘35th Annual Conference of Orissa Chemical Society’ Organized by Department of Chemistry

 

35^th Annual Conference of Orissa Chemical Society and National Seminar on Frontiers in Chemical Sciences (FCS-2021) was organized by P. G. Department of Chemistry, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, during Dec.18-19, 2021. The objective of the seminar was to discuss the recent developments, importance and societal benefit of chemical science. The conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, MSCB University Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa as Chief Guest and Former Director, NCL Pune, Prof. Swaminathan Sivaram as Guest of Honour. Renowned Scientists and academicians from different parts of our country delivered and discussed their scientific findings. Santi Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee Prof. S. Sivaram delivered a talk on ‘Future of Chemistry’. The scientific programme included different technical lectures, award lectures, general body meeting etc. In the valedictory function different awards were distributed.

Research Scholar Conclave

 

A Research Scholars' Conclave was held at the University on 14^th & 15^th December 2021. Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa, inaugurated the conclave as Chief guest and addressed the scholars by emphasising that research is the soul of the University and it should be people-centered for the betterment of society. The poster exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. R.P.Mishra, former Secretary General, World Hindi secretariat, Mauritius. The conclave was chaired by Prof. A.K.Biswal, Chairman PG Council. Chief speaker of the conclave, Dr. Sanghamitra Patnaik, Senior scientist at  Krishi Vigyan Kendra in her keynote address, discussed various aspects of agricultural research for human welfare. Shri S.Samadhia, Registrar, in his address  highlighted the various government incentives for research. Dr. J.K.Mantri, Convener, tendered the welcome address and Dr. P.R.Debata offered vote of thanks. On 2^nd day of the conclave Dr. A.C.Panda of Institute of Life Science, Bhubaneswar talked in detail about the circular RNA and answered the queries of the participants. As many as 67 researchers of the University showcased their research using posters and interacted with the visitors of the conclave. The conclave was attended by the faculty members, research scholars and students of the University and constituent colleges. The event was coordinated by Dr. A.K.Jena, Dr. P.K.Jena, Dr. B.Hansda, Dr. P.K.Swain & Mr. S.Bissoyi, Dr. S.Sahu, Dr. G.Dhangadamajhi and Dr. J.N.Beshra.

National Seminar Organised by Department of Hindi

 

A National Seminar was organized by the Post Graduate Department of Hindi on 14^thDecember 2021. The theme of the seminar was "Necessity of Translation". Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor K. Basa, Chief Guest on this occasion emphasized that Research is a noble component of the University and expressed hope that students will gain knowledge to learn more from eminent researchers and intellectuals in such platforms. Chief Speaker of the event, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mishra, Former Secretary General, World Hindi secretariat, Mauritius delivered the keynote address. He narrated his valuable experience in translating 99 Odia books to Hindi. The meeting was chaired by Prof. A.K.Biswal, Chairman, PG Council. Ms. Sasmita Pani, Department of Hindi, introduced the guest and Dr. S.K.Sahu, Deputy Director, Self-financing courses coordinated the entire event.

Interntional Aids Day

 

The NSS P.G. Unit of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University observed the International Aids Day on 1^st December 2021. To mark the occasion, a big awareness rally was organised from the University main entrance to Takhatpur circle, in which students, faculties and non-teaching staffs of the University participated. Later, a meeting was addressed by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa, highlighting the relevance of observation of ‘International AIDS Day’ and exhorted the cadets to carry forward the awareness campaign for dissemination of knowledge for prevention of AIDS.

Symposium on Ananda Sankar Das

A symposium on Mr Ananda Sankar Das, a noted playwright of Mayurbhanj, was organised in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi in the Convention Annexe Hall of the University on 27th Nov 2021. The event was inaugurated by the Vice- Chancellor Prof. K. K. Basa (who completed a year in the office that day) and was presided by noted littérateur Dr. Bijayananda Singh. The Key note address was delivered by Dr. Bishnupriya Otta. The symposium was attended by the faculty, students of MSCBU as well as many admirers of Mr. Das from Mayurbhanj.

International Seminar on Role of Small Molecules in the Treatment of Inflammatory Diseases

An International Seminar was organised by Department of Zoology, MSCBU in blended mode. Dr Pragya Das, Senior Scientist and Assistant Professor, Cooper University Hospital, New Jersey, USA gave a talk on “Role of small molecules in the treatment of inflammatory diseases”. The Seminar was attended by the students and faculty members of MSCBU.

Training on "Kahan" - a data compilation software by Times Group

 

A Training Workshop was organised by the IQAC cell on “Training on Data Compilation software” to ease data handling for NAAC. The meeting was held at VC Secretariat and attended by faculty members of MSCBU.

Preparatory Meeting for Inter-University Games and Sports

 

A Preparatory Meeting for Inter-University Games and Sports was held in the Convention Annexe Hall of MSCBU. It was attended by eminent sports personalities of the Mayurbhanj, sports coaches, Principal of Degree Colleges and Faculty members of MSCBU. All of them pledged and extended their support to the University to make the event a grand success.

A Sacred Grove in MSCBU Campus

An awareness drive on the role of sacred groves in biodiversity conservation was launched at the APJ Abdul Kalam Biodiversity Park of Maharaja Sriam Chandra Bhanjadeo University on Tuesday, 23 November. The campaign was organised primarily to promote ecological awareness among students of the university. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa lauded some of the finest conservation practices of Adivasis and urged the gathering to appreciate and learn from rich tribal cultures. Padma Awardee Dr Damayanti Besra, who was felicitated on the occasion, spoke on the intimate links between tribal cultures and sacred groves, which act as vital sites of ecological conservation. Chairman PG Council Prof. Anil Kumar Biswal compared the university’s bounteous biodiversity park to a ‘mini Similipal’ and spoke in fond admiration of the symbolic importance of the sacred grove. Registrar Mr. Sahadev Samadhia emphasised the harmonious coexistence of the tribals with nature and its significance in our times. Commending the efforts of the students in organizing the event, comptroller of finance Mr. Sukadev Tarei reiterated the university’s unstinting commitment to biodiversity protection. The occasion witnessed a gathering of more than 250 students and faculty members of all departments. The event was smoothly organised by Dr Jtindranath Besra of Santhali department, Dr Bishnupriya Hansdah of Botany department.  Dr Suvendu Satpathy, assistant professor, department of Social Work proposed the formal vote of thanks.

Workshop on “Phylogeny, Homology Modelling and Molecular Docking

An IDP-OHEPEE sponsored 10 days virtual workshop on “Phylogeny, Homology Modelling and Molecular Docking” organised by Department of Biotechnology, MSCBU has started off. Resource persons from OUAT, Bhubaneswar, NIT Warangal, OIST Midnapur, Raiganj University, West Bengal and MSCBU, Baripada are scheduled to deliver their lectures. The inaugural of the workshop was attended by faculty, research scholars and students. 

MSCBU participated in Odisha Research Conclave

Research Scholars and Faculty presented their research papers in the Odisha Research Conclave, 2021 held at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and organised by Odisha Higher Education Council. Vice- Chancellor Prof. K. K. Basa attended the two-day conclave and encouraged the faculty and students who presented papers.

Heartful Campus @MSCBU

The "Heartfulness Campus" program has been concluded at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjdeo University. The programme was conducted by the Heartfulness Education Trust for the faculty and students of the University. The event which concluded on 30th October was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishore Kumar Basa on 25th October. On behalf of the Heartfulness Education Trust resource persons like Swati Dixit, Sudhir Chandra, Sushma Vidalkar, Gayatri Behera, Sundari Sharma conducted this value based programme. . On behalf of the University Chairman of the Post Graduate Council Prof. Anil Kumar Biswal and Er. Gandharva Behera from the Heartful Education Trust Odisha took the leadership towards organizing this event. The Coordinator & Head of the Department of Computer Application Dr. J. K. Mantri, Dr. Puspanjali Parida, Mr. Swarupananda Bissoyi and from the Heartfulness Education Trust Mr. Uttam Patra, Ms. Namita Tanti and Mr. Mihir Kumar Mohapatra facilitated the entire week long programme. The event was attended by a total of 525 students and faculty from 24 different departments of the University.

Youth Empowerment

A value-added course on “YOUTH EMPOWERMENT” coordinated by Department of Economics commenced on 12.11.2021 with huge participation by P. G. students of different departments of MSCBU.

A new series of NOUConnect (now MSCBUConnect)

Seminar series “MSCBUConnect” was held in Botany Conference Hall. Vice- Chancellor, Prof. K. K. Basa presided the meeting and Chairman, P. G. Council, Prof. A. K. Biswal, gave a talk on “Traditional Medicines”. It was attended by all faculty members of MSCBU.

World Science Day

World Science Day was celebrated in the Convention Annex Hall and Prof. Surajit Ghosh, Dept of Physics, Vidyasagar University presented a talk and elaborated on the significance of the day in present day scenario. The meeting was presided by Chairman, PG Council, MSCBU. All faculty members along with students attended the talk.

Yoga for All

A value-added course “YOGA FOR ALL” coordinated by the Department of Yoga and Naturopathy was started in the Chemistry Conference Hall and there was great enthusiasm among the students to participate in the course.

Commemorating the 150th Birth anniversary year of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo, Prof. Jatindra K. Nayak gave a talk on "Life and contribution of the Maharaja" in a virtual meeting. The meeting was presided by Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. K. Basa and attended by the faculty members of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University (MSCBU).

International Seminar by Department of Economics

The Department of Economics, MSCBDU has organised an International Seminar on “Memory and Intransient Growth” in blended mode on 25^th October 2021. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa inaugurated the seminar. At the outset Prof. A.K.Biswal, Chairman P.G. Council, delivered the welcome address. Dr.A.K.Patra, Head, Department of Economics, introduced the Resource person to the audience. Prof. Tapas Mishra, Professor and Head, Department of Banking and Finance at Southampton Business School, University of Southampton, UK, delivered his talk as Resource Person. In his address he highlighted that the permanent growth pattern of the economy is primarily decided by the past growth rate and some other unaccounted factors. Dr. K.K.Sahu proposed the vote of thanks. More than 80 members, cutting across discipline have taken active participation in the programme. The seminar was coordinated by Dr. M.Mallick, Dr. P.K.Jena and Dr.S.S.Basa.

A Unique Online Faculty Development Programme on “Heartful Campus” was organized by the Heartfulness Education Trust on 24^th September 2021. The event was aimed to discuss about the importance of spiritual health and other good practices of life. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. K.K.Basa inaugurated this event and expressed his view on the ability, hard work and leadership of each human being. Various eminent speakers from the trust such as Krishna Sachdeba, Dr Sarita Rani, Sushama Divalkar, Namrata Tanti and Priti Pie have discussed on diversifying importance of spiritual health and other important aspects of behavioural society to the participants. Dr J.K. Mantri, Dr P. Parida and Mr. S.Bissoyi coordinated the programme.
